    Summary

It’s dark, and Ilya’s not quite sure where he is.

His entire body is numb. His shoes are soaking wet from trudging lazily through the snow. His nose is running, and his lips are chapped.

Selfishly, he wishes Shane would fuss over him now. Pull him close, whisper “I forgive you” even though he shouldn’t, because Ilya would never change, because something inside him- in his family line, in his soul- was broken.

Ilya wondered how long ago it had clicked- when Shane had realized that Ilya wormed his way into this country and tricked the Hollanders into caring for him, then returned the favor by botching their language and leaving a trail of mess in his wake. He still can't help but wonder if that will be part of his punishment- being doomed to miss him in death, too.

or: Ilya’s mostly been able to cope with the fact that he’ll never be able to articulate himself fully in this country- but he’s also never been good at talking about feelings in the first place.

"I'm tired" is the best he's got. It definitely doesn't capture what's going on in his head, and Shane can't read minds.

    Bookmarker's Notes

Amazing depiction of what depression feels like, made me cried a lot but felt good too as the fic ends up with hope for the future. Fics like this one are so therapeutic, you just feel the characters's pain and at the same time root so much for them. So beautifully written!

It wasn't any easier the second time Shane got his bell rung.

It was actually quite a lot worse.

    Summary

In which Ilya comes back to room fourteen ten.

Canon divergent from, and following directly after, s01e01 when Ilya leaves Shane's hotel room. Contains Ilya being a provocative dick, Shane being unable to resist rising (ha) to it, too much discussion of chicken, some David Attenborough, Shane negotiating his feelings and interpersonal relationships with all his classic suavity and skill, and as much sex as two nineteen year old professional athletes can fit into one evening.

    Bookmarker's Notes

Loved the whole convo about eating chicken vs steak as metaphor for sexual preferences and the conclusion that any option is good as long as it's your choice

Ilya Rozanov is, maybe, perhaps, a little unhealthily obsessed with his cycling instructor, a man who does not know he exists. Or, Ilya corrects himself, he may know he exists—he is Ilya Rozanov, after all—but, the point still stands.

Shane Hollander is a former college hockey player turned Peloton instructor with some very dedicated fans.

Happy (early) Shane Hollander's birthday to all who celebrate! This story starts May 10, 2021.

    Summary

He remembers their last hook up, a month or so before this. He thinks that’s where his brain had started to go on the fritz. When he’d just finished blowing Ilya in the shower and Ilya had hit him with ‘You need to get laid, Hollander. Waiting for a quick fuck every couple of months is not healthy.’ Shane had acted all indignant and puffy, but only because Ilya had hit a bit too close to home with that, and he’d been so cavalier about it too. Because yeah, maybe Shane had never made a conscious decision to do it, but he felt like he only existed in short hour long snippets when he could slip away and be with Ilya. And that fucking terrified him.

Then because Ilya was Ilya, he had to one, two punch him by saying, ‘I have ruined you. No one else would do.’ And Shane had to lock that deep in the caverns of his mind because of how true those words rang. He didn’t want it to be true, but it was.

“I think, maybe, this whole thing is starting to mean something different to me.”

    — Or Episode 4 remix/Chapter 13 rewrite. Shane doesn’t leave after the tuna melts in Boston.

    Part 2 added.
