Summary
Contrasting with the clench of his jaw, the rigid line of shoulders, the dark scrunch of anger on his face, when Ilya brings his hand up to cup Shane’s cheek, thumb very lightly brushing against his injured bottom lip, the touch is as gentle as ever.
"Who did this to you?”
Shane swallows, heart soaring painfully at the touch. He was convinced he’d never warm up, the chill of tonight just too strong especially with how poorly he’d dressed himself. But the press of Ilya’s palm against his skin has his insides flaring to life. His own hands tremble uselessly in his lap, lips unconsciously protruding into a small pout as he leans just a fraction into the contact.
________________Or, no matter how much Shane tries to convince himself they’re no good for each other, he and Ilya are the only ones who truly know how to handle one another.
They bring out the best and the worst in each other, at the same damned time.

Summary
Shane doesn’t respond right away, he just looks at him for a moment longer, before he nods back, mouth curving into a faint smile. A sad smile that Ilya didn’t expect.
He breaks the eye contract, turning his face to the side as he starts blinking hard, like he’s trying to force something back.
And oh.
Ilya’s chest constricts sharply when he realises what the other’s doing.
Shane is doing it again. Hiding his feelings before they can spill over. Stopping himself from crying. It’s an odd habit Ilya has noticed from the very beginning, the fact that Shane never truly lets his tears fall. Doesn’t matter how heavy the shine around his eyes becomes, they’re always swallowed back inside.
___________
Wherein Ilya comforts Shane after stupidly proposing the idea to marry Svetlana for a citizenship.

Summary
The most significant thing about life is that you can dice syllables, snap on, or off, a suffix or prefix, bend words and build new meanings, yet in the end, blood is blood, and death is death. The purity of the blood, and the events leading to the death, those are up to you. But at core, the truth never changes, no matter how many webs of lies you spin around it.
Jeongguk can do all he wants to reassure himself. Reframe, rewrite, reconstruct what he remembers, what he feels. He can stitch together softer versions of the story, tell himself it was fate, or deception.
And yet he can't escape the truth.
Kim Namjoon is not a good man. Not to the world. Not to himself. Arguably, not even to Jeongguk.
And yet, Jeongguk still loves him.
Not that he has a choice.

Summary
"I know how important it is to your ego that you have the spot beside me at the top of the pack. Even if Seokmin deserves it more than you.”
While Taehyung can’t quite argue with his parents that he’d prefer to have another second in command, he’s let Jeongguk know enough times that he doesn’t react now.
“It is important to me. Which is why I think going with you is a good idea. If we are going to work together, we should probably get along.”
Taehyung can’t help but laugh, even if Jeongguk is right. He tries not to think about it too much, always pushing it off to deal with later but he can’t deny that it will be hard to work with Jeongguk when they both hate each other so much. “It’s a little too late for that, Jeongguk.”
Jeongguk lowers his back against the water, looking up at the sky above. “Probably. I can’t quite say I will enjoy being by your side as your second hand, but it is my duty.”
[Future Alpha Taehyung's parents send his ex best friend, future second in command Jeongguk to university with him. Taehyung's annoyed. Jeongguk takes his duties too seriously for reasons. There's only one bed.]
