Childe swallows harshly, his tongue feeling thick in his mouth.
“Your Majesty, I believe there may be a misunderstanding.”
More like an impossibly large oversight to this whole plan. “Rex Lapis and I… we are not on the best of terms, at the moment.” That’s putting it lightly, though saying as much to his Queen feels immensely childish, and shame surely paints his face a burning red hue. “I do not think he would be pleased to receive me.”
Her expression does not change, and she only answers him with patience. “On the contrary, he has specifically requested you.”

Summary
Hawks' mistake was leaving his jacket behind for anyone to pick up and take. He'd been arrogant to think no creature would be stupid enough to mess with his stuff. It was foolish of him to forget that Dabi is exactly that type of creature. But really, how was he supposed to know he'd go into heat? There are ongoing bets on wether the guy is an alpha or beta. Omega isn't even an option!
Yet that's how Hawks finds him, sitting there wrapped in Hawks' jacket, well into preheat and looking like the cat that got the cream.
Hawks blinks and finds himself hovering over Dabi. They are in the omega's nest and Dabi looks... his lips are bitten red, cheeks flushed, chest heaving... he looks debauched.
...he's still wearing Hawks' jacket.

When Dabi needs to be settled lest he burn down the building and everyone in it, Hawks steps up to the plate.

No, ultimately, it comes down to Dabi acknowledging that Hawks is as manageable an alpha as he's going to get if he ever wants to sate his curiosity about being knotted--and Hawks's own curiosity about what Dabi would be like in such a compromising position.
