Summary
Sure, it’s clear that they wish to be able to share a bed with him, what with the fact that they bought a king-sized mattress when they all moved across the country together or the fact that sometimes, when Edwin leaves to go to his own room at night, one of them will look at him with longing when they think that he isn’t looking.
But he doesn’t need to defend himself, because Charles and Monty are understanding of his needs and fears and the like.
But tonight, Edwin cannot sleep in his own room. He is laying in bed, staring at the ceiling fan, watching the hours go by because he cannot help but think about Charles and Monty, in the other room, easily asleep in each other’s arms.
Edwin swallows. He wants that.
He craves that closeness. He hungers for that intimacy. He wants the warm nights, the lazy mornings, the cuddles that aren’t cramped on the sofa but rather spread out on the bed, limbs splayed on top of each other, faces smushed up against the backs of each other’s necks.
But after all the fuss that he has made so far about not wishing to share a bed…can he really ask them to accept him in now?

The Weight of Living Things by FictionalGeographic
Fandom Star Trek, Star Trek: Alternate Original Series (Movies), Star Trek: The Original Series, Star Trek: The Original Series (Movies)
21 Dec 2025
Summary
This series is about what survives.
Across planets and centuries, after extinction events and political compromises, after love is regulated and grief is deferred, people keep living anyway. They build families in the cracks of systems that were never meant to hold them. They carry memory in their bodies, in their bonds, in the quiet choices they make every day.
The Weight of Living Things follows Jim Kirk and Spock as they navigate love under constraint, parenthood under scrutiny, and activism born not from heroism but from necessity. It is about found family, hybrid children, inherited trauma, and the slow, stubborn work of care. About what it means to belong to a world that no longer looks like home—and choosing to stay present anyway.
These stories are not about saving the galaxy.
They are about keeping each other safe.
About holding what remains.
About learning, again and again, that survival is not passive—it is an act.- Words:

Summary
After Earth’s destruction, survival was never meant to look like this.
Jim Kirk is building a life on Vulcan: married, bonded, raising a hybrid daughter whose emotions echo too loudly for a world that prefers quiet. Spock is doing what he has always done—seeking truth, choosing ethics over comfort—even when it costs him his standing. Around them is a growing, messy constellation of people: friends, found family, activists, parents, children, all trying to make something livable out of what remains.
As Earth’s future is debated behind closed doors, as institutions resist change and children grow faster than anyone expects, Jim and Spock find themselves choosing, again and again, to stay present—with each other, with their community, and with a hope that isn’t naïve, only careful.
This is a story about parenthood, grief, love that endures pressure, and the slow work of making a home when the sky you remember no longer exists—but still matters.
---A sequel to "A Touch Across Time" and "Hybrid Hearts" (you will need to read these to understand this fic)
