“You’re not real,” Viktor repeated, closing his eyes. Even with the knowledge that this was a dream, the gentle touch unraveled him. There was an impact crater where his heart should be.
The calloused pad of Jayce's thumb found the corner of Viktor’s mouth. “All right. I’ll bite – what’s your evidence for this hypothesis?”

“Is that… you, Viktor?”
It was barely more than a whisper, but he almost couldn’t bring himself to ask in the first place. The question scared him, the coming answer he feared even more. He knew the question was callous and loaded, but he had to know.
Those warm eyes faltered and became reproachful, they averted with a look of guilt, his eyebrows scrunching together. Viktor hugged his good knee tighter to his chest, his short and shallow breathing and his tightened lips betraying the hurt he felt at the question. The creases at the side of his nose deepened in dismay in the way only Viktor's face suited. All of these things told Jayce everything he needed desperately to know; this wasn’t the serene herald, or even the maniacal machine herald.
This was Viktor.

After a life of silence, longing, and grief, Merlin is finally reunited with Arthur, the man he loved in secret during their time in Camelot. Now free from duty and destiny, the two slowly rebuild their bond in a quiet lakeside cottage.
The hardest part is pretending. Pretending he doesn't notice the way Arthur's voice softens when they're alone. Pretending the way Arthur looks at him, like he's searching for something, doesn't set him on fire. Pretending the ache in his chest is just fatigue, or hunger, or anything but what it is.
They cook together, and it's awkward, elbow-bumping, infuriatingly domestic. Arthur claims Merlin burns his meals on purpose. Merlin retaliates by enchanting the cupboard so that it opens only for him. Arthur threatens to ban magic "just in this kitchen".

It's the sort of observation that has no place in their kind of science: has no room to be tested or tried. No hypothesis to put to the blackboard. The sky is blue, water is wet, and Jayce loves Viktor.

And she wasn’t cruel, her words were kind, filled with a mother’s love, but Viktor was painfully aware of all the things he couldn’t offer Jayce: fame, adventure, children… the life Ximena wanted for her son.
(I love the miscommunication trope)
