    Summary

    It seems that in every battle, Merlin resorts to dropping tree branches on the heads of his and Arthur's enemies. But surely there are several problems with this as a battle tactic...?

    In which tree-branch-dropping goes very wrong, and Merlin learns to branch out.

    (Also fair warning this contains a plethora of truly awful puns so continue at your own risk.)

    Summary

    Longstead at the foot of the Feorre Mountains.
    Mysterious sickness affecting only young men.
    Merlin is sent to treat the illness and report his findings.
    Before the trip is over, every past alliance will be challenged and Merlin may just have to solve this problem on his own.
    Well, nothing new there.

    This fic was inspired by a conversation between friendlyneighborhoodwriter and Glon_Morski on Land of Myth Discord server regarding Arthur’s comment to Merlin about not being able to find his own backside in the Lamia episode (s.4, ep.8). So, it does have spoilers and may not make sense if you haven’t watched that episode. Or, maybe not. Happy reading!

    I do not own Merlin.

    Summary

    “You’ll never believe it,” he chuckled ruefully, “I too helped save the life of Prince Arthur once, and I too got banished from Camelot by the King.”

    “You’re kidding?” Gwaine coughed in disbelief, swallowing his mead before it went up his nose.

    ~~~~~~~~
    After being banished from Camelot, Gwaine meets a traveller in a tavern: Lancelot, a fellow exile. The pair bond over shared experiences, but Gwaine sees that there’s more to Lancelot’s deep sorrow than he lets on.
    Gwaine seeks to bring Lancelot out of his shell. Lancelot is not used to being shown such kindness, but with Gwaine, he finds himself laughing for the first time in a long time.
    Summary
    “Merlin has magic…”
    Three words uttered by Uther Pendragon’s spirit sets off a chain of events that will dramatically alter the lives of not only Merlin and Arthur, but everyone around them. Before Arthur can fully come to terms with his friend’s betrayal Merlin is captured by a vengeful Morgana who knows he is Emrys. Fearing for his life, Arthur sets out on his own to find his friend and bring him home…hopefully before Morgana’s army attacks Camelot.
    Merlin finds himself far from home, without his magic, and at the mercy of Morgana. When all her efforts to break Merlin fail, Morgana wonders just what it will take to crush his spirit. A desperate attempt to do so has a startling effect, not just on Merlin, but on Morgana as well. It forces them both to face the past and the feelings they thought long buried. Merlin knows the only way out is through and if he can bring Morgana with him then just maybe they could alter the path fate had laid out for them.
    Summary
    Thirteen-year-old Merlin Emrys was captured while trying to rescue his father from the secret organization known as the Centre. A prison for magic users, it has been shrouded in secrecy for a hundred years. Five years later, his life is an endless cycle of torture, abuse, and failed experiments intended to harvest his magic for nefarious means. Trapped in a magic suppressing cell, unable to escape, he has almost given up. Then one day he looks up to see a familiar face on the other side of the glass and suddenly there is hope.
    The Pendragons assumed control of the Centre from the Parkers before Arthur Pendragon was even born. He has always sensed the evil that permeates the walls of the century-old Art Deco Style building. Now his father expects him to take an executive position at the Centre. Uther is all too happy to show him exactly what goes on within those dreaded walls and it makes Arthur sick to learn what his family legacy truly is. Then he is introduced to the Centre’s most prized possession, a dark-haired, blue-eyed boy who just happens to be the most powerful sorcerer to ever walk the earth.
    Summary
    Merlin watches Arthur leave. He has to forcibly remind himself about what he can and cannot have; who and what he is. Thrice damned. Blessed to be alive, in Camelot, and at Arthur’s side. He needs nothing more.
    For now, Merlin has paperwork to do and more magical artefacts to buy back from the citizens of Camelot. He takes a couple of moments to reconstruct himself, reaching for some ambient magic and using it to stabilise his tired body and revitalise his mind.
    He can’t fall over when there is more work to do. When he opens his eyes, Merlin straightens his itchy court outfit and sets off to be the best Court Sorcerer he can be.
    The sequel to Soldier, Peasant, King where Merlin, now serving as Camelot’s Court Sorcerer, must weigh his personal wish to accept the king’s mutually-desired advances to court him against his professional duty: to help bring about and sustain Camelot’s Golden Age as prophesied and witnessed in the Crystal of Neahtid. Of course, the very same Crystal paints a future for him and Arthur as a harbinger of heartache.
    Summary
    It makes him breathless sometimes, sitting in the silver moonlight, head in his hands, knees on the floor. The taste of dust in his mouth and the tight strain of his lungs against his ribcage. It’s a silent torment, one that Merlin sweeps under the rug for the morning so that he can serve Arthur, at least for as long as he can.
    Summary
    Because if there are places where magic survives in the 21st century, one of those places is surely Oxford. Because the fellowship of Camelot deserved happier fates than the show gave them. Because it's hard for a king to save the world, and harder for a prophecy to be broken. And because, though there are many imaginings of what happened to Merlin, surviving into a new world, I wanted to write this one.
    This work is tagged for Arthurian mythology (and related fandoms) because, as some readers may notice, I've borrowed ideas from medieval literature and modern retellings, which will be acknowledged in the respective chapters.
    Weekly updates planned for Wednesdays; begun 10 June 2020. Note as of 20 August: this fic was planned to be finished by the end of the summer; it will not be. It has grown in the telling, and while it is plotted and sketched out to its end, the regularity of updates is very likely to suffer as the academic year begins. Subscriptions recommended to interested parties.
    The trip to the Disir ends differently. Instead of Merlin suffering in his silence when Arthur makes his decision, the goddess and the Disir take magic from Camelot. They take the heart of Camelot and give the King a chance to learn what magic has done for him and his kingdom. A year to learn or Merlin will remain as he is.
    Summary
    Bandits, again. This time, they force some revelations.
    -
    As he had grown, practised more, aged a few years (and gained the wisdom that came with them), it had stopped being enough. It had begun to spill out of him, leak, like he was a cracked vessel glued shoddily together. He’d conjure his dreams while he slept - Gaius had seen him, projecting images in shadows and light of what he dreamt, and had warned him to be careful - but how could Merlin control what he did when he was asleep? He’d found once or twice, when he let his mind wander too far in the boredom that overtook it while performing some of the more dull tasks for Arthur, that his magic would simply come out and complete the task for him: times when he’d drift while polishing armour in the armoury and suddenly he’d find himself with a pile of shining plate and two hours to spare before he had to return to either Gaius or Arthur. Sometimes, he even found that he’d perform magic on accident in front of the King, or the knights. It was instinctual. It was certainly accidental. And it was becoming more and more dangerous. He was struggling to keep his cracks from breaking further, struggling to keep the liquid magic in his veins spilling forth.
