Summary
Sylus has always been at a distance- truthfully, he thinks he cares- in some way for him and his brother- or maybe he hopes so. That the fractional softening of his gaze, and leniency and surrender to playing video games with them at odd hours- that the fierce, cold anger radiating from Sylus the first time they’d ever been truly close to dying on a job, means something. That he has somebody.
Not like Kieran. Luke and his brother have always been a package item- twin brothers- not just cut from the same cloth, but the torn and inseparable parts of the same piece- two things so intertwined that he often didn't know where one ended and the other started.
No, Luke hoped for something aside from him- because Kieran was a certainty- someone more apart of him than his own limbs.
Maybe he hopes he might have someone choose them.
But even then, Sylus has use of them. Sylus might care for them, but they are also his right hands- and keeping them safe, and sound is beneficial to him.
She- she is different.
