Summary
There is a point in every man’s life, a distinctive point in time where he recognizes that he has grown up. Come into his own. Someone who holds a job, someone who does laundry on Saturdays and attends church every Sunday. Lars is trying to understand what a man is; if he deserves that title yet.
Maybe it is someone just as lost as the injured, bloody stranger he finds in the snow. The deer on the side of the highway that Lars passed last week, or the moths in the porch lights Karin had to pluck out of the bulb, or the mice stuck in oil and glue that Gus didn't mean to hurt.
Driver is trying to understand what it means to be human, to be alive, rather than a man at all.
