“Then…” Enid steels herself. “Then can I touch myself, or not?”
Wednesday exhales, uncrossing her arms. “You may.”
This fucking girl.
“Fine,” Enid says in a small voice, scooting back on the bed.
She feels cowed and decidedly not turned on, shoved as far away from her as possible against the unforgiving headboard. This was not how she saw her Thursday afternoon going when she escaped to find some privacy.

“Yeah,” Enid takes a deep breath, staring at the pen balanced between Wednesday’s fingers. “Except, I’d really like it if you could test it for me.”
Wednesday’s hand stills; even the regular sound of her breathing disappears. “…Excuse me?”
“Um…I’d like for you to test it? My hypothesis?” Enid’s voice climbs higher and higher. “In a totally non-personal, scientific method kind of way?”
This time, Wednesday pushes the desk back to the wall before turning to face Enid entirely. “Did you just propose that we have sex?”
“For science!” Enid bleats. “To test my theory about my sluttiness! This is a personal growth experiment, Wednesday. As my best friend, I thought you might be interested in sharing that.”

Summary
It’s a tough pill to swallow for a girl who has never belonged anywhere, not to anyone. Not even to Stack, not least because he won’t allow it.

A few fundamental truths learned in your first year of uni:
