Shortly after the Eclipse Cannon explodes into a supernova, a fallen star lands in the woods surrounding Green Hills, Montana. On a late-night run, Sonic discovers a confused, singed (but very much alive), Shadow. Luckily, he knows the perfect place for a down-on-his-luck hedgehog to recuperate without being spotted- that is, if he can convince Shadow to accept the help. Slowly, the cave that was once just a decaying monument to past-lives becomes something more, a living representation of fresh starts and healing wounds.

Sonic's eyes widen in shock. "You asked me to go running with you because you were bored?"
Shadow glares at him. “Don't think that I'm making a habit out of it."
When Shadow invites Sonic to hang out with him, he doesn't expect it to become a thing. He doesn't expect to see Sonic letting down some of his barriers, shedding bravado, or running with him in silence, but it becomes his new normal.
And maybe—it's a big maybe—Shadow is getting used to having Sonic to himself.
