Working for HYDRA was not as bad as people made it seem. Sure the torture and death threats sucked, but you get free food and don't need to pay taxes. You even made some friends. You were slowly but surely making a life for yourself within the small confined walls of HYDRA's Sokovia base.
And then of course the Avengers had to swoop in and disrupt your perfect routine.
