Summary
Brahms was never taught to share. Everything from your time to your affection had to be his, and his only. He didn’t know there were other lost causes in the world, or that your kindness extended to every poor creature in need. Until one day, you returned home with a small, trembling puppy in your arms, and shattered his reality. Alongside the revelation that your life could revolve around something other than him came his first taste of jealousy. Was he competing with a dog? Only he had the rights to your attention.
Your view of things was much simpler. Caring for a pet or for Brahms was pretty much the same thing. Both had pretty basic needs. Only, one was a demanding, untamed mutt, and the other was a puppy.
