“I have a vision,” Nikolai announces Sunday morning over their coffees.
Kaz cocks a bored eyebrow at him over where he sips at his drink. “Do we need to take you to a psychiatrist?” he deadpans.
Nikolai deflates a little. “No, I don’t mean, like, a hallucination. I mean, I have a plan.”
Kaz puts his coffee down. “Ah. I see. Well, best to curb all that now before it gets out of hand—”
“— how come you can have plan after plan after brilliant plan, but I can't have even one?” Nikolai pouts loudly.
Kaz eyes him. “Because my plans are, as you say, brilliant,” he says pointedly. “Yours just involve taking my car apart and forgetting to put it back together by the time I need to leave for work—”
“ — okay, that was one time—” Nikolai protests.
“ — which is one time too many,” Kaz shoots back, stirring the caramel drizzle that’s started to settle at the bottom of his cup.
Nikolai frowns. “Whatever,” he dismisses the incredibly relevant point. “The point is, this vision of mine is easy to execute, and furthermore, you’re going to help me with it, which will turn it brilliant by default.”Or,

In their defense, they thought it was pretty obvious.
The Kingdom of Science may have maxed out their Intelligence stat; but, they rolled a 1 on Perception. Or, in other words, they might not have noticed the change in relationship between one scientist and one mentalist.

Wylan sucks in a breath, steeling himself and getting his order right in his head before opening the door. The sound of the door must have gotten Jesper’s attention, because he looks up from the machine behind the counter and waves.
“Wylan! Hey, you're back,” he says, grinning at Wylan as if he truly is happy to see him. “Nina, look–” he taps her on the shoulder as Wylan walks over.
Nina, who has just finished serving a customer, swats Jesper’s hand away lightly. “Yes, yes, I see him,” she says with an exasperated eyeroll, making eye contact with Wylan afterwards. She smiles at him. “Hey Wylan, what took you so long– I was stuck with only Jesper for conversation for like four days– it takes its toll on a person.”
Wylan, laughing at Jesper’s feigned offence, responds. “I’m sure he’s lovely company to have.”
“See! I am lovely.” he says to Nina, clearly proud of himself
