Summary
“Well, kid,” John says quietly. “What are we going to do now?” Like he actually doesn’t know the answer. Like he doesn’t care. Like he wants Jim to make the decision for him. Like he wants Jim to shoot him. To kill him. To rip him bloody and gorge on the pain he inflicts in return for brutally shredding Jim’s fragile barely formed life.
Jim clutches the shotgun with sweaty palms, grimy fingers catching on the hot metal, itching for the trigger.
“I don’t know,” he coughs the words out around a tight ball in his throat.

El narrows her eyes. Neal wonders whether the piercing gaze is a trait she and Peter shared in common that helped them fall in love back in the day, or if they perfected it together since then.
“I can’t tell if you were genuinely scared of dying or if you are just manipulating my husband.”
Or, when Neal gets shot in the arm, Peter may or may not be worried. Neal and El decide to have just a little bit of harmless fun and see how far his worry extends.

Hoffman was weird. He was more than weird.
Strahm knew he was weird and he was going to get off his ass and prove it.
The knife he’d been jimmying around the edges of Hoffman’s apartment window jiggled a few more times and Peter prayed that it wouldn’t snap, he’d broken his last good knife not by attempting to break and enter another police officer’s place but by trying to pry a stone out of the sole of his shoe. The tip had broken clean off and the stone had remained lodged firmly in the rivets of the rubber.
It hadn’t been the worst thing to happen that day though. That would have been the biro pen sticking out the front of Strahm’s trachea.
