Michaela holds Francesca’s gaze. The familiar confidence is present, but not effortless. One hand is wrapped around the strap of her overnight bag. Her breath lifts the open collar.
“I still have one present to give you,” she says.
Francesca looks at the coat, the heels, the bag, and then behind Michaela as though the correct explanation might be waiting in the corridor.
