The words slipped from her almost without thought: "Speaking of, it's like an oven in here." Her throat felt arid. He'd released her from his scheme, given her an out — so why did she persist in this verbal dance?
Sebastian's eyes narrowed, mirth crinkling corners. "An oven, indeed," he echoed, head canting with consideration as piercing as an owl's gaze. His posture shifted; a leg crossed over the other once more. "You could always move further away from the fire if it's too much for you…"
