-her heart nearly leaps out of her chest when she spots them. Cherry blossom petals and snakes envelope both his breasts and upper arms, a dry lump forming in her throat the farther back they went. Her lips pressed together as if they were sealing away a life-threatening secret that only he could verbalize. It just seemed too personal for such an impromptu meeting. Despite all of this, she just can’t help but sink into his gaze, the gentle sparkle luring her in like a mouse to a trap— and just like that, her heart calms right back down, mind coming up with all sorts of wordless excuses to trust him. Out of all of those churning gears, one seems to turn the fastest, and it says:
If I were really in trouble, I'd probably be dead by now, or something like that.
(Majima meets and saves a woman. Both being strangers, their pasts prior to meeting each other are shrouded in mystery- however, their past mistakes are pushed away in favor of good faith and healing.)

It's a long story but here's the quick and dirty version: they have to convince pretty much the whole-ass Kamurocho criminal underworld they're in love and other than two very specific people nobody, absolutely fucking nobody, can know it’s just a bit till the job is done.
You want the long version, including the part where this whole dumb stunt was Majima’s idea? Kiryu kind of insists that it be made real nice and clear that this was, in fact, Majima’s stupid idea and he just went along with it because he didn’t know what the hell else to try. Which, y’know. Fair enough.
[In which Majima and Kiryu pretend to be a Thing for family business reasons. With these two, this is easier said than done.]

“Yumi Sawamura,” Seonhee replied matter-of-factly. “Dead for nearly twenty years.”
Silence fell around the table as they all considered this new angle. If they were talking about any other guy Seonhee would have suggested finding him a pretty girl who’d show him a good time. [...] But she knew it just wouldn’t work. It’s not that Kiryu-san didn’t appreciate beautiful women; he just wasn’t a man who’d fall head over heels for one so quickly. It was a quality she admired about him, and which, at the same time, annoyed her to no end. The man was immovable like a mountain.
“There had to be someone else,” Saeko said. “You don’t really believe Kiryu-san didn’t even have a crush on anyone after Yumi died, do you?”
