“My sword,” Gideon said, unable to put it out of her head even with Harrow’s mouth insistent on her lips. It had to feel like such a betrayal to watch Aiglamene go, to watch her disappear down the stairs with Gideon’s beloved blade. Aiglamene left her student lying broken before the Reverend Daughter of the Ninth House, defeated in a field strewn with easily accessible bone.
“You’ll get it back." Harrow kissed the broken skin of Gideon’s lower lip, pressed it between her teeth.
“What is this?” Gideon asked as she settled back into Harrow's offer, eager enough to kiss Harrow back now that she knew her sword was safe.
“A parting gift.”
