  Johnny sighed. It was clear he still felt guilty, and he wasn’t going to just allow me to drown in my dreadfulness. “Look, Pony. Let me make it up to you.” He pushed off the wall so I could see his face clearly.

  I cocked an eyebrow. “What’dya mean by that?” There was no way Johnny could ever make me feel better about having to cut my hair short. He could probably give me a few bucks or buy me a pack of cigarettes, but it’d still take months for my hair to grow back the way I like it.
