Max managed to return the smile.
“Sure. It was, um, nice seeing you?” She said lamely, because they saw each other practically everyday. Except for all the times she’d avoided his voice— all their voices— on the walkie this month, and rain-checked on invitations to hang-outs, ran a late fee returning her videos, even hid in the janitor’s closet the day before, when she saw the boys walking down the hall in her direction.
Or: Max is trying her hardest to push everyone away after Starcourt, and The Party just won't stand for that. The start of a series; Mike's up first.
