Summary
Tim knows how to survive on his own.
It’s a quality that makes him capable of carrying on Robin’s legacy, that is, until he is kidnapped. Held captive by a bereaved widow who is determined to break him, Tim is not only faced with the grim reality that his parents warned him about, but also the prospect of losing the one thing he trusted in: himself.
_____
How is it that after so long, Tim can still be entertained by the idea of being rescued?
No one was ever going to save him.
“He’s been taking over Crime Alley, running drugs through our city; integrating with human traffickers!” Casualty snarls, the static buzz of her modulator echoing off the walls of the elevator. She grabs the bottom of his hand to pull his aim back on the Red Hood, as if that little correction can stabilize the handgun that trembles in the boy’s grip.
Part of Tim knows it would be so much easier to sink into the depths of her control, he’s given her most of his mind already. Another part, exhausted but so very Robin, wonders how much more it will take for the woman to give up on him.
Even after all she’s done to him, he refuses to break first. Robin never quit, that’s what made him magic.

Summary
In the wake of Bruce’s return from the timestream, Tim Drake struggles to find his place. Despite the sacrifices Tim made and the losses he faced for them, it seems his family has moved on without him. It’s not hard to jump to the conclusion that he is no longer needed or wanted, and Red Robin suddenly is not bothered by the blows he takes and the bones he breaks.
It’s Dick Grayson who notices and faces the consequences of what he and the rest of the family has failed to do for Tim Drake. He just hopes it’s not too late to make amends.
_______________________Dick clasps the kid’s forearm before he can move to grab his shoes again and spins Tim back around, “Talk to me. Please.”
Tim shakes his arm loose of Dick’s hold, irritation pulling at his brows as he opens his mouth to tell his brother off, but to both of their dismay, Tim can’t seem to push any words out. He clamps his teeth around the beginning of a word, then takes an aborted step back. In a flash, his face morphs into one of anguish.
“I think—“ Tim chokes,“I think I’m trying to die.”
Admitting it is the catalyst that cracks Tim’s resolve.
