Summary
“Hey, Gill. How’re you doin'?” Chip leaned further back, turning his head towards Gillion. They hadn’t seen each other much today, so it made sense that Chip wanted to check in with him, but Gillion really didn’t have the energy for it right now.
Gillion just sighed, turning to Chip. The human’s eyes widened as he straightened up and turned to Gill, seeing the slight frown, but otherwise blank and heavy expression on his face.
Then Gillion was tumbling forward into Chip’s arms, who was scrambling to catch him and then struggling to hold him up, letting out a small grunt at the weight dropped on top of him so suddenly.
Or,
Gillion has an autistic meltdown and Chip does his best to help him.

Summary
After a few stories, Gillion shifted to face Chip a bit more. They wrapped their arms around his waist and gave him a small kiss on the jaw, burying their nose between his neck and shoulder and mumbling against his skin, “Y’r warm.”
“Dumpling, you can’t see the stars like that.” Chip smiled at his partner, rubbing the base of their coral with the hand that hadn’t been pointing out the constellations.
Gill just made a small gurgle, their face still buried in the warmth of Chip. “Keep talking, please. Want to hear your voice,” they mumbled after a moment, voice small, and Chip could hear the tiredness dripping off of it.
Or
Gillion has a nightmare, and after freaking out about it, Chip takes care of them.

Something tickles the edge of his memories, of something one of his parents told him about before he left—some sort of story about a merfolk who was cursed. But he can’t be cursed!
