Work Text:
Mew sat around, nervously swaying her tail, fear and annoyance creeping into every inch of her body. She didn't even know why she felt annoyed, it was her fault if anything—
"Mew. Please just head through the gate and onto the train. Your going to make me late."
—Her 'masters' words snapped her out of her trance, disappointment radiating off her 'master' as he spared her another glance. She had obviously messed up once again.
"Y-yes!! Master I'll be right there i swear— please give me a second-"
Mew scrambled onto the train, her ears drooped down noticeably as she took her place next to her master, xenquo, her tail wrapping around her leg and squeezing harder then it most likely needed to keep mew grounded.
Xenquo's gaze stayed on her until her….. Acquaintance..? ..Friend..? Mucor stepped onto the train, eagerly talking up Xenquo, completely disregarding mew's existence. (Which was fine truly! It's not as if her and mucor where close- or even on good terms.)
Mew stared out the train window for nearly the entire time until they arrived. It wasn't like she wanted to talk with any other passengers either way.
"Mew, please accompany mucor to the second guest bedroom on the left, you and mucor will be stripping the bed and cleaning the room."
Xenquo nodded at mew and mucor expectantly, stepping off the train and entering somewhere inside the house, leaving mew and mucor to their own devices.
.
.
.
"You just going to stand there Mew? Your blocking the whole doorway."
He scoffed as mew shifted out of the way, carefully shifting her tail out of his way, anger coiling around her throat as she reluctantly followed.
Mucor opened up a door, and ushered mew in urgently.
(Had he come to this home before..?)
Mew glanced around the room nervously, taking in as much as possible
(the room is so much nicer then the ones i usually get assigned too—) Mew droned off into her thoughts.
"Heeeelllo?"
Mucor mock waved in-front of her face, making her flinch back in surprise. Mew swore she saw his eye twitch.
"Get to work kitty-kitty. Don't get your.. sickness anywhere. Or whatever those weird marks on your cheek are."
Rage tore at her throat, her ears pinned back and her tail lashed. She knew she was being baited. So why was she biting the bait? why couldn't she just stay calm and save him the satisfaction.
"Careful now! Your going to knock over that gorgeous vase with that attitude."
Mew glanced back in a panic, just to see nothing there. She had fell into another 'trick' of his.
"You asshole- there's nothing there—"
Mew hissed out, only to see mucor gone. Probably going to do something actually useful with his time. Mew forced herself to follow suit.
All things considered- mew and mucor finished cleaning up the room in record time.
It didn't feel like it went by fast at all though. Not with how often mucor would come by just to bother her.
"Took ya long enough kitty-kitty! I was beginning to think you where trying to leave all the work on poor me!"
Mew scowled at him, choosing to turn her back on him and head for the door.
"Hey now kitty-cat, i have oneee question for ya,"
Mew froze at his tone.
"How come i never see that second clone of yours anymore?"
Her whole body froze. She could only turn back to look at his stupid face. He didn't even seem to be mocking her. (which made it feel so much worse.)
She just stared at him. It was only until her eyes began to burn how long she had kept them open that she realized she was crying. What a stupid reaction.
.
.
.
She swore the silence could last a lifetime more at this rate.
.
.
.
Another beat of silence. Mucor stared at her, with almost almost pity.
.
.
"I'm sorry."
The silence had been broken. For better or for worse.
"I-i shouldn't have brought her up—I was just curious—"
Mew merely shook her head.
Mucor turned his face away from her presumably in shame. Maybe she would've comforted him in another universe.
Tears burned at her skin as she left the room, pulling out her notebook.
(shhh ok so my dear readers!!! i honestly forgot the term, but its basically when under stress you become nonverbal for periods of time, only able to make noises and not being able to form words because of extreme emotional stress. Anyway our dearest mew's (well actually my—) way of working around this is by keeping a note book to communicate with others without using verbal words!)
The rest of the day was a blur of random tasks, and occasionally seeing mucor and xenquo while passing through the house. (The latter of which refused to meet her eyes now.)
Mew hovered around a table, writing out a quick note and handing it to xenquo, who seemed annoyed at her lack of words.
"Are you going to be like this the whole day?"
Mew shrunk back, her ears flicking nervously as she shook her head no.
"You have got to be faking this whole act…"
He hissed under his breath after she had walked a good distance away and put distance between them by getting behind a counter, clutching her notebook closely.
Mew's heart lurched. Something was wrong. (Her whole body screamed to run- run anywhere-) Xenquo looked at her and extended out his hand.
"Mew. Take my hand."
It didn't sound like a request. More of a command.
Mew opened up her note book, writing: "I'm still busy master, please let me finish up." And offering it to him to read.
His anger only seemed to grow. (Every instinct she had was screaming at her to run.)
"Take my hand. Mew."
She slowly backed away clutching her notebook.
His hand ripped her notebook away, it being tossed onto the ground.
(RUN. GO, RUN GO RUN. RUN-HIDE—)
Xenquo grabbed her forcefully, dragging her somewhere. Wherever didn't matter, all that mattered was that she needed to get away.
-Her body struggled to hold onto a chair as he dragged her away, chocked animalist noises escaping her as she tried to force herself to beg to be freed.-
His grip didn't falter as she sobbed and pleaded. He was saying something about her. Everything was blurry and spinning—-
PLEASE—LETME GO——
Her voice came out strangled and chocked up. The fact she had managed to say anything at all was a miracle.
-she sobbed as she was thrown on to a couch, her surroundings where blurry. she felt his hand shove her head down. where was mucor?-
Her eyes darted around the room, her gaze landing on mucor, who was standing off to the side in horror.
-She nearly pleaded with him to help he, but he rushed out of the room, leaving her alone with xenquo. everything felt still. She couldn't feel her body. Adrenaline and fear was all that remained.-
"don't you dare move."
He barked out the command as she struggled against the much larger man to no avail.
Tears streamed down her face as he lectured her, his words blurring out of her mind as her whole body shook with sobs and her rapid breaths.
"How could i be left with such a stupid creature like you as a student."
Her eyes drifted in and out of focus, her whole body limp and terrified.
After far too long, he finally released his hold on her, leaving her shaking and terrified on the couch.
-she gasped for air, her entire body begging her to run-
She forced herself to sit up, her tail curled around her protectively, the small amount of comfort it brought was all that was keeping her stable enough to breath.
(why had he left me?)
She buried her head into her arms, crying softly as she forced the events out of her mind. She needed to get the notebook. It was time to go.
(how had she remembered him saying that?)
There was no use questioning it.
