Just Don't Worry Darling, I'll Be Fine

Summary:

The next time Jon was aware of anything outside the book, his grandmother had taken it from him and he was outside in a park. How had he gotten there?

"Give that back!" He didn't want it back. Why did he say that? He had to protect her from it. From Mr. Spider.

Mr. Spider couldn't take the one person who cared about him. So he chased after her, and watched as she knocked, just like all the flies before her. And like all the flies before her, she was eaten by Mr. Spider. And Jon just had to watch. He had to watch as the only family he had left was taken and eaten by a giant spider.

Chapter Text

Jonathan Sims was an orphan, with just his grandmother to take care of him.

Until he was eight.

His grandmother had gotten him all the books that had been under a set price, and brought them home to him so as to distract him and keep him in the house.

You see, Jon was the kind of child that could never seem to stay put, but if he had a book, he wouldn't move until he had finished it. His grandmother took advantage of this, keeping him occupied with books to avoid having to actually pay attention to him. There was, however, a flaw in this plan. Jon didn't like reading books that he felt like he'd already read, so if a book was by the same author, or had a similar plot to a book he'd read before, he'd refuse to read it.

So instead of buying longer books that she thought he'd like, she'd go to a store and but as many books as possible without even looking at them. That's how It ended up in there.

Jon didn't even like children's books, so when he saw it, he was going to just set it aside and not read it. 'A Guest For Mr. Spider' was its title. A little board book for babies, certainly not anything Jon would read.

But he did. He picked up the book and started reading it, almost like a spider's silk puppeting his limbs.

So as soon as he could move again, he ran to the police station. No one believed him, but it was an undoubtable fact that his grandmother was gone, and he had no one else to look after him, so he was sent to an orphanage.
