Summary:

The case if over, Yu's no longer sick, and it's Christmas Eve. Everyone has decided to get together for a little Christmas party to celebrate the end of the investigation and all of Yu's ordeals from this past year. Once things wind down, Yu and Yosuke get some time to each other to look over the last few months, and look forward to their time together.

Notes:

This is the epilogue to Ame no Yūrei, which is my AU where, instead of the TV murders and Personas, Yosuke was mysteriously killed six months prior to Yu's arrival, and now he's some kind of wind/rain yokai. From there the plot instead follows Yu trying to figure out what happened to him, but fate still leads him to making friends with most of the IT regardless and finding the supernatural origin to Yosuke's murder.

You could probably read this without checking out the main story, since this is mostly for the sex, but I'd still recommend reading that, if only because of a lot of the "how"s.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

It wasn’t to say that Yu was grateful he had gotten sick. No, having pneumonia still sucked, no matter when you get it, but it was lucky for Yu that he caught it when he did.

Any later, and he probably would have still been sick by the time Christmas rolled around.

He was excited, for once. Adachi was locked up, and there was nothing left to worry about regarding the case. There was going to be a whole party, with his friends.

Dojima was only mildly exasperated by all of the company coming over, one person after another. Some had gifts, Kanji brought a cake, and others like Teddie were merely glad to be there. Nanako was surprised to see so many people over for Christmas, she was almost overwhelmed.

Naoto had been the last to arrive, regarding everyone with a simple tip of the hat, “Apologies for my tardiness,” there was a moment’s pause, noticing Yosuke waving from in front of the couch, “Dojima-san, you’re…”

“Aware of Hanamura?” He nodded.

Nanako chirped up, “Yosuke-nii lives with us! Isn’t that fun?”

Dojima laughed, moving to stand, “Trust me, he’s taken some getting used to, especially at dinnertime. You kids have fun, alright?”

Yu tilted his head, briefly taking his eyes from the hot pot he was preparing, “Are you going somewhere, uncle?”

“I’m going to spend some time with Yoichi, I trust you kids will behave yourselves. I’ll probably be back pretty late.”

“I’ll try and save you some cake.”

Once the door was closed behind Dojima, everyone slowly got situated at the low table.

“I’m… surprised you told your uncle, Yu-senpai,” Naoto admitted.

He shrugged, fetching some bowls, “Well, you guys had told him some of what happened at Tatsuhime, and I really didn’t want to keep lying to him.”

“Yeah, I think it’s better overall that he knows,” Yosuke added.

“And…” there was some hesitation before Naoto finished the sentence, “Your father?”

He shrugged, taking a seat next to Teddie, “He told Yu he was thinking about moving back to Tokyo after the trial but–”

“Daddy and Hanamura-san are in a… um… bromance!”

Everyone paused, their heads snapping to look right at Nanako. She seemed excited about what she just said, giddy even. To be fair, Dojima using Hanamura-san’s given name wasn’t exactly subtle. He hadn’t even done that with Adachi.

Yu decided to brush her off, “Yeah, it’s… something we’ll have to deal with if I end up staying here in Inaba. He knows Yosuke’s still in town, just…”

“Not with you,” Naoto finished.

Regardless, Yu decided to let the subject drop, making sure everyone had their own bowl and chopsticks, before taking a seat between Yosuke and Nanako.

Chie was nearly drooling by this point, “Oh, this looks so good!”

“There’s a little of everything,” Yu said, “Eat as much as you want, I can prepare more if I need to.”

There was a chorus of joy as everyone said their thanks. Small chatter slowly bubbled while everyone ate, Nanako in particular took a liking to Teddie. She seemed to quickly understand he was also a yokai, peppering him with questions of what he used to be. It was good to see everyone in good spirits, frankly. They hadn’t really all gathered in a group since Yu had been hospitalized, so it was nice to be together with no pressing matters.

To the outsider, nothing seemed off about their little merry band.

Kanji was the first to speak, “So Yosuke… senpai, why are you chowin’ down?”

“Oh that’s right, you don’t really need to eat, do you?” Yukiko added.

He rolled his eyes, taking one of the eggs he had, “Need to, nah,” a pause to swallow, “but I think it’d be more awkward if I didn’t eat with you guys. Just think of it as an offering or something.”

Rise leaned in, watching carefully, “Does it taste good?”

“Like, can I taste it? Yeah, it’s great.”

It was strange to have Yosuke field everyone’s questions, but he didn’t seem to mind them at all. Yu listened carefully while he ate. While overall it was still strange to grapple with the reality he was a yokai, the others took it in stride. Honestly, Yu had been surprised that Nanako was more curious of Yosuke than scared when she found out. Of course, she had asked about her mother, but Dojima had taken the lead to assure her she was watching over them from afar, and she would do anything to protect her family. It was the best, and probably only, answer any of them could offer her. After all, the mysterious lady with the umbrella hadn’t been seen since that fateful day.

The party slowly became rowdier, as time marched on. Yu was unsure of how to handle the noise, but grateful to be around such lively friends. Conversation flitted from how Konishi-kun had been doing, to speculation on Nagase and Ichijo’s evening, and other small school rumors that came to their mind. The hot pot was devoured, and eventually it was time to serve the cake. A pretty two-tiered one. Kanji denied it was homemade, but everyone could just barely tell that it was. He hadn’t wanted to bake one, but Yu had practically begged him, just so he could deter Chie and Yukiko. Neither of them could have afforded one, nor had thought ahead early enough to place a reservation.

It was only because Kanji remembered how sick Yu had been on the camping trip that he relented. That, and the only reason Yu didn’t take up the task was simply because Dojima didn’t own an oven.

It was basic, but nonetheless delicious.

The day drug on, eventually it started to turn to night, everyone gradually starting to say their goodbyes. Not before Rise suggested the girls spending the night at the inn, just for fun. Nanako, naturally, was invited as well, and was carted off with a little duffle bag after securing her father’s permission.

Kanji was one of the last to leave, Teddie in tow, a gentle smile gracing his face as he waved goodbye.

Finally alone, Yosuke took his opportunity to wrap his arms around Yu as he washed the dishes.

“You holding up, partner?” he asked.

Yu nodded, suppressing a shiver, “Yeah, we’ll have to get together for New Year’s too.”

They fell into a comfortable silence, waiting for Yu to finish his chore before they wandered up to his room. He switched on the light and took a seat on the couch before extending his arms out towards Yosuke. Gladly, he situated himself in his arms, taking a spot next to him.

Leaning in, Yosuke stole a kiss, lightly chilling Yu’s cheek. Turning to look at him, he returned the kiss, threading one hand through his hair, another resting on his hip.

“You know,” Yu breathed, tracing the line of Yosuke’s collar, watching him lean into his neck, “You’ve never explained if this is your shapeshifting, or just something you put on.”

There was a sharp scrape of teeth against his delicate skin, “You mean these clothes?” He leaned back up, “I… you’re going to laugh, or call me out.”

All he could do was shake his head.

“You know how I told you that Izanami grabbed me, right?”

A nod.

“Well,” he hesitated, certainly he would have been red if he could blush, “You saw what she did to your arm, and how it just melted through your sleeve. Let’s just say, my uniform basically got trashed.” He pouted when Yu started to laugh, “Shut up, it was embarrassing! While everyone was worrying about you, the fox had to fetch me a spare yukata. After that, I… might have snuck into Junes after I was purified and stole some stuff.”

“You didn’t.”

“Hey, it was the stuff with, like minor imperfections. Stuff they were going to get rid of anyway. It’s not like I could just go home and raid my closet. I mean… I probably could, but I didn’t think it was worth it. I don’t know what dad’s done with my stuff.”

Yu shook his head, more surprised than angry at Yosuke’s boldness, “Explains the new heaphones. Just… I’m sorry, didn’t even think that could happen to you.”

“Honestly,” he breathed, running a hand up Yu’s shirt, “Didn’t think so either, but, it’s for the best. It’s not like I’m going to ever graduate.”

It took a lot of willpower for Yu to let the statement slide. Sometimes Yosuke would say things like that. Things that would remind him that, despite it all, he was still someone’s spirit. Tied to the earth by his anchor that was Yu’s soul, but nonetheless of the departed. He shook his head again, deciding to continue indulging Yosuke, grabbing the hem of his own shirt to throw it over his head, baring his chest.

Yosuke ran his hands down his shoulders, over his arms, stopping to stare at his left one, specifically, taking a breath through his teeth, “Damn dude, she really did do a number on you.”

“It’s alright,” Yu admitted, “You should have seen it right before they did my surgery.”

“I’m better off not knowing,” His hand traced the edge of the scar on Yu’s palm, “Was your hand damaged at all, or…?”

“Moving my thumb and wrist is a little awkward because the necrosis had started getting past the skin,” he admitted, “But they said within six months it’ll be like it never happened as long as I keep up with physical therapy. The scars will eventually fade too, but might still end up a bit noticeable. Not like I’m left-handed anyway.”

All Yosuke did was nod, pulling his hand up to kiss it. He barely registered the frosty sensation, instead urging Yosuke to take off his own shirt. Though his hands were a little hesitant, he couldn’t deny this was what he wanted.

They had spent a better part of the year literally dancing around each other. Couldn’t get too close, couldn’t be seen together, lest things fall apart or go haywire. Now, they were no longer burdened by Yu’s omamori, or even his curses. Neither had asked for anything more than a hug or kiss since Yosuke came back, but it hadn’t been a priority. Not when that had been basically the beginning of their relationship.

Though, it was hard to say if there was much decorum about getting physical when Yu had already let Yosuke touch his soul.

There was only a brief pause when Yu saw Yosuke’s chest. Despite his bruising having completely faded, there were still plenty of mars and marks littering his torso. Remnants of what had truly happened to him last year. Given the commotion, Yu hadn’t really paid attention to them when everyone was at the inn.

Instead of saying anything, though, Yosuke merely smiled, pulling Yu in to get him to stop staring. Furiously, they started grabbing at each other, tracing lines on the other’s skin, pawing hesitantly at their belts, before shying away to continue making-out on Yu’s couch.

When Yu finally worked up the courage to put both of his hands on Yosuke’s belt, he broke the kiss, a thought resting at the front of his mind, “This is… a weird question, partner, but…”

He hummed back, more interested in attacking Yu’s neck than anything.

“Can you…” he swallowed, weirdly nervous to even voice what was on his mind, “Are we…”

Yosuke pulled back, looking him in the eye, “Have you… never done this before?”

He blushed, “Well… no, I’ve never really gone this far with anyone else. Had a couple girlfriends in middle school, but nothing serious. Not when I moved so often. That’s besides the point, though.”

“Then what’s up?”

Another swallow, “Can you… even get hard?”

There was a brief moment’s silence. The air hanging heavily before Yosuke let out a laugh.

That’s what you’re worried about, partner?”

He pouted, “Well, your inability to blush makes it pretty clear you don’t have blood.”

Instead of answering, Yosuke shifted his position, shoving Yu into the arm of the couch. One hand reached for his wrist, urging him to cup him gently between the legs. Regardless of his worries, there was definitely a blossoming erection there.

“I’m… so curious how the hell that even works,” he muttered.

Yosuke breathed another laugh, before moving to undo Yu’s belt between them, “Same way other yokai somehow get pregnant, dude. Don’t think about it too hard.”

“Good idea, honestly.”

Melting into another kiss easily took Yu’s mind off the subject. He shuddered, unsure if it was due to excitement, or the cold touch of Yosuke’s hands on his hips. That feeling was so strange, his body was practically burning up already, even though they had just started, but Yosuke’s hands felt like ice. No matter how much he tried to warm them up.

It didn’t take long for Yu to find himself completely bared for Yosuke, his limbs awkwardly sprawled across his couch. Certainly, his face had to be completely red. He didn’t know why he was suddenly feeling so self-conscious. It wasn’t like he hadn’t spent half his life sharing baths with people.

Perhaps it was the context.

It was just the two of them, secluded in his room. They were planning… well, he didn’t exactly know what the plan was. Despite his eagerness, Yosuke started the flounder once Yu’s pants were off. He barely even toyed with the buckle of his own belt.

Yu slowly shifted to sit up, “Is… are you okay?”

“Yeah,” he sighed, “I just… I’ll be honest, I don’t really know what we should be doing.”

“Isn’t that supposed to be my line?”

Yosuke stared right at him, planting his hands into the cushion below, “I dunno… You’re the one that had a couple girlfriends.”

“Yosuke, I barely could get myself to hold their hands, and I was, like, thirteen. You think I’ve done anything like this?”

“Well no… but…” he rubbed at the back of his neck, “You seemed more self-assured about this whole ‘liking guys’ thing. I didn’t give it any thought until… well… Iwatodai.”

There was a pause, before Yu let out a snicker.

“What?”

“Sorry, but you realized you liked me when you–”

“I don’t want to hear it, dude. You’re the one that awkwardly darted for the shower afterwards.”

“Yeah, because I felt sick,” he laughed, “You kind of literally rearranged my guts, partner.”

Yosuke buried his face into his hands with a muffled scream, “Dude, you can’t just say things like that!”

“Why not? You were planning on doing it again, apparently.”

“No I wasn’t!”

Yu leaned in, wrapping his arms around his shoulders, “Then why are we getting undressed?”

Slowly, Yosuke lowered his hands, moving to wrap them around Yu’s waist instead, “I don’t know… I figured… it’s Christmas and… y’know, we’d do what couples do.”

Yu kissed him, “We don’t have to, if you’re nervous.”

“Dude, I don’t think nervous is an emotion I can feel anymore.”

“Clearly you can,” he moved his hands to trace down his arms, “You’re hesitating.”

He huffed, seemingly conceding that Yu might be right, “I still want to, though.”

“Then we take it slow. I… don’t exactly have anything in my room to go all the way anyway.”

“Bullshit, your lube is half-empty.”

Yu was certain he had flushed completely red, “Have you been searching through my stuff?”

“Only because I was trying to find your stash.”

Yosuke.

There was a bit of an awkward pause, then a soft apology, before Yu merely sighed. He tugged at Yosuke’s belt again, making his intentions clear. This time, he obliged, shifting so he could remove the offending garments. His legs were relatively free of any wounds, but something in the back of Yu’s mind reminded him of the major arteries down there. Stuff that would have killed him quickly, rather than his slow, painful death.

He shook his head. That wasn’t important.

What was important was where Yu’s eyes landed between his legs.

Again, he was somewhat used to seeing others naked. He’d showered with the soccer team plenty of times.

But to see Yosuke, naked, his cock half-erect, and his eyes fixed on him with what he could only assume was burning lust… That was different. He knelt back on the couch, positioned right in front of Yu.

“So, what now?” he asked.

Carefully, Yu leaned forwards, grabbing Yosuke’s hands, pressing a kiss into the palm of one, and guiding the other to run across his leg. With a moment’s hesitation, Yosuke pulled back his hand so he could capture Yu’s lips in an icy kiss, pushing them down until Yu was once again lying on his back. The other slid across his skin, raising goosebumps along the way, before dipping his fingers into the junction where his leg met his pelvis. There was a shiver, but Yu only pulled back to gasp when he felt that cold touch brush along his cock.

Yosuke stared at him, pausing, “You okay?”

He nodded, “Just surprised. You’re cold, remember?”

There was a small huff, perhaps just to acknowledge the statement. Regardless, Yosuke slowly went back to work, pressing and pulling at Yu’s length. He had to wonder if that’s what he used to do to himself. If that’s what he does to himself.  The dry friction was slightly uncomfortable, but Yu was in no mood to get up. He carded his own hands through Yosuke’s hair, relishing just how remarkably soft it was. The tips prickled his skin, like he used product, or they were a bit frosty, but he wasn’t complaining.

He could feel a shift, his legs being spread, splaying him open with one falling to the floor from the lack of support. He felt exposed, more than he had ever been in his life. Another soft noise fell from his mouth, feeling Yosuke’s cock slide over his. He took them both in his hand, and Yu couldn’t help but think how much he loved how it felt, even if it felt like Yosuke was stroking him with a goddamn ice cube. Small price to pay for a ghost boyfriend, he figured.

Yosuke hummed, breaking from the kiss so Yu could breathe, “Really should’ve gotten the futon out…”

Yu barely even registered the statement, too keyed up and horny to care. Bucking his hips upwards, wordlessly demanding more. Neither of them had been this close with anyone else. That was pretty clear with how Yosuke barely knew where to situate himself. The couch was small, Yu’s body took up most of the space, and he was still halfway falling off. Yosuke’s hands fumbled his grip a little sometimes, but that hardly mattered when the friction of their bodies moving against each other was electrifying.

Shivers wracked Yu’s body, but it was a temporary discomfort. He pulled them back into a rough kiss, uncaring of his need to breathe. More, just a bit more, his mind repeated. He almost hated how collected Yosuke could remain, even like this. Bent over, fisting two cocks in his hand, but still sounding like they were on a casual walk. All the while Yu could barely get a word out.

It was all too soon though, before he tipped over the edge. Yu pulled back with a loud moan, feeling everything in his body tense up. He could hear Yosuke losing control of his voice as well. Stars danced in his eyes, and he had to take a moment to breathe.

Once the moment passed, Yu found himself laying boneless across the couch, while Yosuke was sitting up, hands between his legs, staring at him, “You good, partner?”

Yu nodded, wincing as he closed his legs to sit up. Noting the angle he was spread at was just a hair too wide for comfort. Glancing down, he noted quite the mess on his stomach. His eyes darted between himself and Yosuke.

“Did you…?”

A slight nod.

Certainly explained why the mess seemed worse than usual, he supposed.

“But… how?” Yu dared ask, dumbly.

Yosuke groaned, turning bashfully away, “Can we not question what fluids I do and don’t have?”

“Okay… so why are you–”

If he could have blushed, he’d be completely red, “Because I’m… still hard…”

“Even after–”

Yes. Stop questioning it, please!”

Yu froze, dumbfounded, “Oh…”

“Yeah. Just…”

“You’re going to be insatiable.”

Yosuke only had a fraction of a second to register what Yu said, before he tackled him off the couch.

Notes:

I'll be honest, part of me wanted Yosk to be more silly with the ghost-iness, or at least have Yu say something about wanting Yosuke inside him again and just both being confused. In the end, this is remarkably tame, even by my standards, but I wanted a proper wrap up to Ame no Yūrei and this felt the best, contextually. Like, this let me tie up what I felt were loose ends, or lingering questions that were actually important.

I'm sorry Teddie got to say fuck-all, but I wasn't sure what to do with him, and I barely even gave Nanako one line. I kind of felt bad Nanako was mostly in the background in the main story and tried to at least give her some prominence, even if she basically just references the same line she has in DAN for Yu and Yosk.

Also, yes, heavily implied Dojima/Yoichi. It's my canoe, and I'm the captain.
