Chapter Text
It was cold.
Simon tried to open his eyes before he realized that they're already open, pure darkness engulfed him and he started second guessing if he was even awake at all.
He tried to sit up but just slammed his head into something instead, he pushed his hands up with a groan. He run his fingers along the ceiling of wherever he was and followed the corner of it down.
It felt like the box; wood, but it was short and long instead of square, and obviously severely lacking in bugs.
He could kick the bottom of it with his feet and knock the sides with his elbows. Something wet moved over his cheek and Simon tried to wipe it off, whatever it was fell off but more just crawled onto him.
He started to feel around the space by his head, he could touch the wall above his head and the corners. There was something soft next to him and he pressed his hand into it.
His fingers sunk through whatever it was, something viscous and moist squished over his palm and under his nails. He moved his other hand over and felt along the thing.
There was something hard under the layer of whatever and he pushed through to feel it up.
Teeth , a jaw, eye sockets, a cavity for a nose .
He wrapped his hand entirely around the bottom jaw and pulled, flesh and cartilage crackling and peeling away.
He sucked in a meager breath and yanked again, this time it gave out and his hand banged into the top of the coffin with the force.
He ran his hand along the top of the box again before slamming the jaw into it. The wood splintered a little and something dry and dusty fell onto his face. He sputtered a little and turned his head away before hitting it again.
It only took a few more hits before the stream of dirt became heavy. Simon sucked in a breath and started shoving the dirt down to his feet with one hand while using the other to break through the earth above.
The bottom of the coffin was almost completely full of dirt when he started to try to sit up and push through the tunnel he was digging.
He almost had his feet under him, digging and breaking through the dirt.
His hand broke out into the cool air and he nearly laughed.
He pushed his other hand up and started shoveling dirt away and onto the ground above.
Simon saw daylight and scrambled up into the sun, he gasped and heaved, completely pulling himself out of the ground and onto his stomach.
He didn't dare open his eyes, just laid there and breathed. The sun was hot on his back and he never wanted to feel anything more.
“Perro!” A whistle came from off to his side “Knew you had it in you"
Simon rolled over onto his back and finally opened his eyes. Roba was crouched and staring down at him, grinning. Torres was standing behind him, looking smug.
Roba chuckled lowly “Oh don't look at me like that, you're perfect”
