Tommy knew this very well with the loss of his mother at an awfully young age for it to be healthy not only for him but also for his family.

As his life is going on alone with his father, while Techno is at his fancy university and Wilbur is nowhere to be seen, Tommy will learn once more that life wasn't kind as he will learn that the same sickness that killed his mother was about to kill him too.

In a will to see his family whole once again, will he succeed to find Wilbur his older brother?

Maybe things were just not meant to be.

Or

Chapter 1: Introduction

Chapter Text

The World was a cruel place and it would never change, Tommy knew that ever since his mother had passed away. Tommy knew that things were never going to get better when something so tragic happen. Tommy knew life had no mercy.

He was seven when his whole life had taken a turn for the worst. When he was seven his mother passed away from lung cancer. Of course, life had to be unfair to the Minecraft family so soon. Kristin was a beautiful woman with some health issues of course, but one of the most beautiful women Tommy had ever seen. He had always been proud to have her as his mother and his way of thinking about his mother would never change for anything in the world.

When Kristin died, the Minecraft family did too, in a certain way. By that, it meant that they could not be considered a family after what happened and its outcomes. The loss of Kristin made everything go in downhill for the small family from the broken boys trying to mourn their mother as much as they could to a constantly drunk father to take care of. As Phil left his sons all by themselves, the only thing he could do was drink to forget his sorrow and the morbid feeling he had lost his devoted wife. Phil knew at that moment that Kristin would not be happy with what he did, but her loss had hurt him too much for him to take care of his sons and mourn at the same time.

The father figure role was then given to Techno. He was the one who decided to take it because he was the most mature of the twins. He knew his brother could not handle such a difficult role. On top of that Techno had also seen the change in his brother’s attitude, he was getting colder, and bitter and he was putting a distance between him and his brothers which worried Techno about his twin relationship with Tommy. He knew that getting cold and putting a wall between the both of them would lead to the end of their brotherly love. That was why Techno always made sure to remind Tommy that he loved him just like Wilbur did but of course, with the years the small boy understood that he had lost his brother for good after waiting for just a bit of affection and interaction with him.

All of these changes in Techno’s life had made it hard for him and for his brothers to grow into a “family” which was why their family had died alongside their mother. All of those events eventually made Techno colder and unreadable. He had hidden his feelings, his worries, his breakdown, and his desperation ever since to make sure he was not going to make things harder for his brothers and so it became a part of him to hide away his emotions. Without realizing it, he was affecting Tommy much more than he thought. Tommy had always been observant with his relatives and as he noticed Wilbur’s and Techno’s attitudes change he knew nothing would get back to how it had been before his mother’s death.

Because of all of this, Tommy had grown to be a strong kid who could take care of himself. He hadn’t gotten the choice to learn to take care of himself as when he had turned ten his brother, Wilbur had decided to leave the household in a hurry screaming at the remaining family members he had to fuck off. That he had slammed the door shut and had never opened it ever since. Techno stayed one more year before leaving for college. Tommy was sad but proud of him, he knew his brother was talented and very intelligent, he knew he could go far in life and he also knew that if he had stayed to take care of him he would’ve had been his misfortune. So, as his brother was leaving the household as well the only thing he could think of was the proudness he had to take over the sadness and loneliness he was already feeling.

After a few months, Phil had decided to stop drinking for the sake of his son, the only one he had left at home, the one who still needed him. As he stopped drinking he tried to have a new bond with his son and after a while he made it. As they were both much closer than ever Phil was proud to say he had made it up to Tommy. Tommy was the only one he had left next to him and he would do anything for him. After a year Techno agreed to keep in contact with him calling once every week to have some news about his father and his younger brother.

Tommy was happy to have a good relationship with his father and his brother, even if he had lost touch with Wilbur things had turned out for the best for the small family. He was still wondering how Wilbur was doing, how had his career been, and if he was what he had always wished to be, a musician. He knew that even if Wilbur had cut ties with him he would still love him as he had always been.

As he grew up, his brother was doing well in his studies, his father was also doing great which only made Tommy much happier. Tommy was also doing well, everything was okay for him for the moment that he had his father, his brother, and his best friends Tubbo and Ranboo who had taken Wilbur’s place in his heart, who had filled the hurtful gap in his heart. Of course, all good things have an end, right? Tommy knew that and he wish that the downfall of this peace would never come but who was he to expect so much from the world who had taken his mother away huh? Nothing ever lasts forever.

Tommy was playing video games with his friends when Phil called for him downstairs. It was around eleven am. When Tommy’s and Phil’s world broke down.

Tommy was a healthy teenager, he had never gotten any health problems and he was never sick which had somehow reassured Phil of the fact that his son was alright and will always be, well at least he thought.

Tommy was running down the stairs a tad more out of breath than usual. He was wearing his usual shirt which had always surprised Phil by the fondness the young boy had for this specific shirt. He was always so energetic but this time he was more quiet than usual. Phil decided that it was nothing, his son was just a bit tired that was fine and so he let it pass without a second thought.

Phil and Tommy had a habit to go for a bike ride through the city’s park, it was a simple but amazing father and son moment and they were always having so much fun. Since it was summer break they decided to do one at least every two weeks, they would’ve done more but Phil had to work so they couldn’t do this that often.

It was a peaceful day; the park was just a bit animated by other families surrounding them. There were not too many people just enough to have an unjoyful ride together. The sound of the joyful kids’ voices, the bird’s chip, and the sound of the wind made it so calming for the young boy and his father. It was calming and relaxing.

After around fifteen minutes they had to take a break in their ride. It was not usual for them to take a break this quick but Tommy was not feeling at his best. As Tommy was clamming to feel extremely tired Phil started to worry about him. His son had never gotten so tired in such a short amount of time, it was not normal, something was wrong.

“Are you ok mate ?” Phil asked with a worried tone, he was sitting next to him in the grass looking at him closely as if it would change something to Tommy’s tiredness.

“Yeah, I’m just tired. Maybe I fell asleep too late last night? I did fell asleep late so…” Phil was not convinced, but it was possible and he would not question his son.

“Well then we can go back home so you can rest a bit and I will cook you your favorite food if that’s okay for you ?” At Phil’s word, Tommy lifted his head a bit of disappointment in his eyes because he wanted to spend time with his father, but he knew he wouldn’t be able to ride the bike for long so with a sigh, Tommy accepted the offer with regret seeable on his face.

A few hours later Phil had to go get some groceries, before leaving, Phil checked on his son to make sure everything was fine. Tommy was in his room resting on his bed curled on himself. He looked so tired that Phil was starting to get concerned about his son, since when has he been so tired? This had never happened before so why was this happening now? What was wrong with his kid becoming so tired over one night? As he tried to collect back his thoughts Phil simply entered the room, got closer to his son, and pulled the blanket over his son carefully to not wake him up kissing him on the forehead before leaving the room and closing the door behind him.

The house was so calm usually Tommy was there to brighten it up and make it a bit more alive too. It was rare to not hear the loud boy’s voice. Phil knew better than just worrying about just a bit of tiredness but he couldn’t help himself but feel like it was weird. As he brushed it off of his mind, Phil made his mental list of things to get and to do and left the house ten minutes later leaving the house completely silent which was weird because it never was that silent.

It has now been a week since Tommy had felt sudden fatigue taking over his body. At first, he thought it was just due to a lack of sleep from playing video games at night, but after a week Tommy was even more tired even with the most sleep he could get which was around nine hours per night which was super good! Tommy knew something was wrong for him to be this tired but he brushed it off telling himself that it was nothing. He had been on summer break for not long but he was already getting bored. His best friends Tubbo and Ranboo were on vacation with their family, and Tommy would not go on vacation due to his father’s work. Phil could not take any vacation for the moment and Tommy told him it was fine, he could wait to go on vacation with him later, after all, he had all the time in his life to get a week off with his father.

So, his days were made of boredom and video games. It was not like he had that much to do anyway. He would go outside, but it was only with his father and his friends and the only ones he had were his best friends. He knew this could potentially sound sad but he was proud to say that he had friends, the real ones, the ones that would never leave for anything and that was all that mattered.

After a few hours through his long boring day, Tommy decided to go buy himself some snacks at the small store just 5 minutes away from his house. He did not live in a very active town; in fact, he was in a pretty rich town. He had always lived here thanks to Phil’s job of course. He was grateful to be in a non-problematic town but it got boring here a few times. Everything was always so calm and so boring! So, to lighten things up for him he usually went out running with his earphones or biking around the town to take his mind off things. Today was a day where he would be running a bit just to get to the store.

As he closed the door and plug his earphones inside his ears he could say that it was a “busy day” in his town. By that, it meant that all the families were else in their garden or getting ready to leave for vacation. As he shut the world out to set his full attention to his music and his run.

Running was a bad idea. A very bad idea.

Tommy has always been full of strength and energy but something was not right. Tommy had only run two minutes and it felt like he had run a one-hour marathon. He was out of breath, more, he was completely tired out with no way of breathing. He felt like all the air in his lungs had gotten out of them in just a minute and breathing was starting to hurt a bit too much. Tommy had to settle himself on a bench for at least ten minutes before starting to get a bit more oxygen in his lungs. After twenty minutes Tommy was almost back to normal apart from a cough that was quite a bit annoying for him. As he got up back on his feet, Tommy decided to finally go inside of the store and go back home but this time without running.

Tommy was kind of worried about what just happened to him. It was strange for him to be that out of breath and to be so tired but he was trying his best to tell himself that it was nothing and that he was fine. He was not sure if he wanted to tell his father about this, after all, it was nothing right? It was going to be fine and he did not need to worry his father about anything so he simply left it behind. As he was on his way back home he could feel something bothering him while breathing. He did not pay any attention to it as he told himself it was nothing. At least that’s what he had thought little did he know that things would not be as okay as he thought.
