Work Text:
Karl sat on his desk, writing away on his fourth diary — or was it his fifth? He doesn’t remember.
He wrote on his diary with a ink-dipped quill pen, all the while humming a song that he doesn’t know the name of.
“Hey, Karl?” a voice disturbed the silence, he perked up to meet a man with raven hair, messy white and black articles of clothing and a white bandana wrapped around his head.
He can’t remember his name. How odd.
It feels as if he’s reaching into a jar but no matter now much he reaches, he’s only getting further away from its contents. It’s frustrating.
“Yeah?” he decides to answer.
The ravenette hummed, running a hand through his hair. “I’m heading off to scout around Kinoko,” he said, bringing his free hand to point his thumb backwards, “wanna come with?”
He contemplated his choices, debating if he should actually join him or not. But he decides against it, as he still wants to continue along with finishing this diary entry.
Before he forgets.
“I’m busy, but thanks for the offer!”
“Oh, yeah, no problem, Karl.” and he leaves, leaving Karl alone with himself and his diary.
He thinks that it’s strange. Strange how he got roped into this... time travelling phenomena in the first place.
Was he special? He didn’t think he was. It’s not like he wanted to be a time traveler. So why?
Karl writes down his worries, someone’s told him that writing is a great way to release pent up emotions and frankly, it worked.
But who was it? Who told him this?
He vaguely remembers him. He was under average height but not necessarily short. He always wore a blue jumper and he was loud, funny and eccentric.
His heart swells thinking about him. Why?
He sighs and cards a hand through his hair, frustrated. Why are there so many important things that he couldn’t remember? There are so many things that he doesn’t know and the answers are right there but he can’t find a way to access these pieces of information whatsoever.
He wants an answer. He wants closure. He wants to know.
What are these gold rings resting on his fingers? Why does his heart swell whenever he thinks of the two specific people that he can’t even remember the names of?
...How did he even end up sitting in this chair in the first place?
His memory has gone all over the place and it’s getting all too overwhelming. And before he knows it, he finds himself writing again. A poem.
I wish you enough sun to keep your attitude bright no matter how gray the day may appear.
Sapnap was chasing down Quackity in a field while Karl watches gleefully.
“Got ya!” Sapnap yelled while Quackity shrieked at the sudden harsh contact. “Get off of me!”
“No!” and Karl only giggles at his fiancé’s bantering.
I wish you enough rain to appreciate the sun even more.
Then it started raining, the drops of water dripped down until it began pouring, dampening their clothes and wetting their hair. Sapnap and Quackity, who were previously running around, stilled completely at the sudden change of weather.
“Run!” Karl had shouted, to which the two complied to. Quackity had zipped his jumper off and lifted it up to hide himself and Sapnap from the rain while Karl had his hood up. And the three started seeking for the nearest shelter they could find. The community house.
Sapnap opened the doors, cringing at how it creaked and led them inside.
“Fucking hell, dude, this place is cold as shit.” and the room bursts in laughter, filling the empty silence of the space.
I wish you enough happiness to keep your spirit alive and everlasting.
The community house was dark that day, only leaving the fiancés with themselves to entertain each other throughout the stormy weather. Although the atmosphere was grim, Sapnap and Quackity always found a way to brighten things up just a little bit.
Everytime Karl sees them, he gets this giddy feeling and he realizes time and time again how much the two of them means to him and it makes his heart swell with happiness at the thought of the fact that they were his fiancés. He can’t wait to get married to the most important people in his life.
It was fun that day. It really was.
I wish you enough pain so that even the smallest of joys in life may appear bigger.
Another day, Karl stumbled upon Quackity trying to treat his eye wound, gauze strewn on the grass.
“Quackity!?” Karl shouted, the one in question turning to look at him with his mouth agape. “K...Karl.”
“Quackity... who did this to you?”
“Techno did.” he blurted out, before quickly attempting to change the topic, “But that’s not really the issue here—”
“Shh,” Karl shushed him, “let me help you treat that...” and Quackity let him. The two didn’t exchange much words other than Karl giving him reassurance that it won’t hurt as much, apologizing for each pained hiss Quackity lets out.
I wish you enough gain to satisfy your wanting.
“What do you wish for in the future, Sapnap?”
Sapnap briefly glances at Karl and shrugs half-heartedly, “Nothing much,” he began, “but... I’d love to get married with you and Quackity sooner or later.”
Karl realizes that his cheeks are now a rosy shade of red before giggling, and it’s like a string of melodies in Sapnap’s ears. “I’d love that, too.”
The two only sat on the hill, admiring the sun that began to set, painting the skies a beautiful hue of orange and yellow.
Karl sighed contently. Even with how hectic the server has been for the past few days, he felt like he could relax and let his worries wash away right at that moment. Just him and Sapnap. Maybe even Quackity if they can get him here.
I wish you enough loss to appreciate all that you possess.
The day Dream had gotten imprisoned, Karl immediately went to search for Sapnap, to see how he was holding up after his ex-best friend got sent to jail.
“Sapnap? Are you there?” he called out. And when he saw him lean against the bark of a tree in the middle of the forest, he quickly jogged over to where he was.
Sapnap looked at Karl from the corner of his eyes, “Karl.” it was not a question, just a statement to show that his fiancė was there.
“Hey, scoot over.” he says, watching Sapnap groggily move to the side to give him a seat.
“So... how are you?” Karl asked after a short moment of silence. Sapnap looks at him skeptically, “Where’s this coming from?”
“Nowhere,” Karl huffed, “I just wanna make sure that you’re doing okay.”
Sapnap eventually gave in. “Well, Karl, if you’re oh, so curious about how I am, then I am feeling well.” Sapnap laughed, though it held no malice.
“Are you sure?” Karl pressed on.
Sapnap only stayed quiet. He nervously shifted in his seat and looked away from Karl with his lips sealed as tight as a line. “No.” and that was he needed to hear to envelope Sapnap in a warm embrace. And reluctantly, Sapnap returned it. No one said anything when he started to feel his hoodie dampen just the slightest.
I wish you enough ‘hellos’ to get you through the final goodbye.
Goodbye, Karl Jacobs.
