"You're back! How did 'mining' go?"
Verity's smile widens, his tone laced with sarcasm and doubt.

Mob gulps down the unease that bubbled in his chest. His mind spiraled back to Twixxel's disappearance.
In front of him lay the entity that took his best friend's life, maybe chewed and digested, or swallowed whole if Verity had an ounce of mercy.
The thought of how Twixxel was killed still makes him gag.

But instead of getting angry, lashing out at Verity, or crying his heart out, Mob knew better.

Deep down, he knew that he'd be next if he didn't play his cards right. So instead of letting emotion take over, Mob takes a moment to breathe, remembering how Verity's dotted eyes focused on him. And with a forced smile, he says,

    "Couldn't do it without you."

The yellow entity's smile falters for a moment before widening much more than before.

    "really, now..."

    Summary

Sunny afternoons, crumpled uniforms, and the smell of old books. Ivan's tired from staying up all night studying for midterms, so now he's stuck in the classroom barely listening to their teacher. With his chin on his palm, he glances at the boy to his left, sleeping soundly on his desk.
Silver hair, long lashes, an unbuttoned polo, and wired headphones. Is this guy seriously sleeping?

    "...Isn't that right, Till?"
    Everyone looked to his direction.

    "Uh- ah, yes?"

The teacher leaned on his desk,
"Unless you're dreaming about our lecture then you're prohibited from sleeping in class."
    Everyone laughed.

"...I hear you loud and clear, sir."

The discussion continued, and now Till's rubbing his eyes and carefully analyzing the board.
Ivan wondered if he could really enjoy days like this, like it's too good to be true.

    And perhaps it was.

    . . .

    "Ivan."

    He blinked his eyes open.

Till's figure begins to unblur, his hair illuminated by the fire behind him.
"What?" Ivan mumbled, sitting up. The air is thin, debris is everywhere.

In front of him, a cruel reminder of his reality.
    This nightmare has only begun.

    Summary

    I've always despised Ivan.

He was annoying. He even enjoyed making me suffer, just what the hell was his problem?

So then, why does it feel like this?

I hated everything about him. I despised his very existence. In every aspect of him I just can't find anything about him that I can even tolerate.

And yet it still hurts. Losing him.

I would’ve wanted this, anyway. Right?

And now that his corpse lays lifelessly before me, I can’t help but feel a little lost.

He was still my friend, somehow. He was human just like me. He had emotions, feelings, people special to him.

    I was special to him.

The moment before his body hit the ground, after our lips touched and his hands wrapped around my neck, he looked at me with a smile. A gentle smile, one that I couldn’t see whenever he was trying to get my attention through annoying me. It was a smile that I wish I’ve seen sooner. Not like this.

He muttered in his final moments, drowned by the crowd’s applause,

“I’m sorry… That you were loved by me, Till.”

    Ivan, you damn idiot.

    I hate you.
