Studying his profile as she pours, the name clicks in her head like she knew it would. Even downturned, that face is unmistakable, and the realization thunders lightly in her mind.

“You understand, Professor,” Harry began, after a moment, “that I don’t have my N.E.W.T.s. I never even finished seventh year. Between everything, I never had a chance the first time around, and then afterwards there didn’t seem to be much point. Hermione argued for it, of course, but I was so tired of Britain. So technically, I am completely unqualified for the position.”

“Quite a way to begin an interview, Mr. Potter,” McGonagall said, dryly.

Or, three years after the war, Harry Potter becomes Hogwarts' newest Defense Against the Dark Arts professor.

Actually sobbed from start to finish. This is everything I wanted and more. I have so many favorites from this fic that I cannot possibly condense them here with justice, but because I am stubborn here are some:

    1. Harry being the best godfather to Teddy. It feels like a peek into the life that would've-been if Sirius and Harry had better circumstances.
    2. the more heartwarming comparisons of Harry to James and Sirius + Ron to Fred in McGonagall's eyes -- instead of the more bittersweet ones from the OG series.
    3. Harry airing out his just grievances of being a pawn in war. The way he says that they were just children breaks my heart, because he's right.
    4. the holiday kids gaming group, and Harry being a forever friend to the outcasts.
and 5. the little things: Harry is ABSOLUTELY the heartthrob professor. the glimpse of affection from the Snape portrait. Harry and Neville being the best coworkers. Harry helping Luna get that coin (and their friendship in general).

J.K.'s choice of making Harry an auror and playing into a system he criticized and hated never ever felt right to me. So, it is so important and meaningful to me that this fic emphasized the aftermath of war and its use of children, as well as the goodness of Harry and his steps to making a better world.

He is a good, kind man, and he has fought and suffered well enough. A soft epilogue where he is doing what he loves at the first place he called home is exactly what he deserves.

Fuck the lead character hate, I love Harry so much.
    That's it, that's the review.

P.S. I also loved the note (letter) at the beginning from the author. It resonated so much and put exactly how I felt about the contradicting pull of comfort and resentment I have for the OG series and its author. It reminded me that I am not alone in this, that we are going through this together. I will forever find comfort and be grateful for Dan and his words. He's right; at this point, Hogwarts and its magic has transcended into something greater, something alive, and whatever we found in it is sacred. It can still be and will always be home, for as long as you'd have it.

That’s right. We’re gonna risk life, limb and sanity by asking the question… who is The Batman?

[In-universe Buzzfeed Unsolved accidentally stumbles on Batman’s secret identity. The Batfam reacts.]

I LOVE THIS SERIES SO MUCH.

The worldbuilding built upon the foundations Suzanne has set in the trilogy, and made it so much better and so much more /alive/. The way it explored the mind of the Gamemakers, the inexplicable bond between the Victors, and the Game and the Capitol as a whole is SO well-done. ESPECIALLY the entertainment aspect of it all.

The characterizations of not just our Victors and Gamemakers, but Capitolites and Districts breathed new life to them and made them so fucking human that it amplified every pain and every horror. Danny, Digger, Maysilee... I grieved with Haymitch over all of them.

Don't get me STARTED on Haymitch. They wrote him so compellingly: his struggle with alcoholism, his relationship with the tributes and their team and his escorts, his long and winding path to parenthood, his cleverness rivaling the Gamemakers, and his suppressed charm. At his core, Haymitch Abernathy was a carer: he took care of his family, Danny's family, District 12, his fellow Victors (ESPECIALLY Finnick, like how Chaff and Seeder took him under their wing too), his tributes, his team, his (kinder) escorts, and even his old women sponsors... Haymitch had so much love and care to give that his heart was bursting at the seams to keep them at bay, it was heartbreaking to watch how hard he tried to keep all his love to himself so that the people around him stayed safe. And even when he thought he kept his love in reins, he still loved and loved and loved. Experiencing his life with him, from the 50th to the 75th Games, you can't help but love him too.

And Effie fucking Trinket. God, where to start with her? Effie was the ray of sunshine to Haymitch's perpetually dismal gray skies. They're cut from the same cloth: she's witty and fierce, and most of all she's a carer too. Even though she tries to stay detached from the Games and to return to her blissful Capitolite ignorance™️, she simply couldn't. She went above and beyond her job description as an escort, even after her reeducation, because she loved and loved and loved.

Her reeducation BROKE me. The desperation in Haymitch for her to stay after she saved the rebellion with her quick wit and the resoluteness in Effie to leave showed the dynamic of their relationship perfectly. It was so much push-and-pull, so much ups-and-downs with more lows than highs. Yet they kept coming back to each other.

This series showed so much more of the shitty, shitty things that was present in the Capitol Tyranny and the War. But it also showed that love and kindness and humanity will prevail if we stop repeating the cycle of violence and hate. Easier said than done, but we can do it. Call me naïve or ridiculously optimistic, but we can do it. We have to.

Trust when I say that I held on to every single 925,388 words in this series, and I am still desperate for more.

(Maybe more fluff though. God knows how much pain this series has caused me. But then again, it's the Hunger Games. What did I expect?)
