“I gotta get to the club, Les,” Louis said softly into messy blond hair, “I’ll be back in a couple hours.”
Lestat only moved to wind his leg around Louis’ calf, making the younger vampire smile slightly.
“I’ll be as quick as I can, promise.”
“You say that every night.”
“And every night I am as quick as I can be,” Louis defended, his fingers dragging up the soft skin of Lestat’s lower back.
Lestat huffed, his arm tightening around Louis’ waist. “You should take a night off. I did not make you into a vampire for you to work this hard.” He finally lifted his head, his nose gliding along the line of Louis’ jaw. “I will make it worth your while.” His voice took on that purr, that soft smooth tone that made Louis feel liquid.

The thought is ridiculous. Rue's way out of Maddy's league — she's lucky enough she gets to fuck her. Someone as gorgeous and determined and powerful and brilliant as Maddy wouldn't want someone like her. Maddy can't be with someone like her. She's too fucked up, she's done too much fucked up shit.
After everything Maddy's been through, she needs someone stable. Someone good.
