She and Yeji signed their papers and the other three signed a separate, longer one, with conditions about diverted payments and the management of ITZY’s group activities, and Chaeryeong can’t even fathom how any of it is going to work. Thinking about her future stopped being her strong suit after the age of 18.

Chaeryeong can’t help the furrow in her eyebrows when Ryujin asks it like that. Like she wants Chaeryeong to open up when she’s closed shut herself. They’ve spent a lot of their youth in moving cars and waiting rooms and with each other, and the haziness of what’s supposed to be the most beautiful time of their lives has changed them, for better or for worse. Ryujin, the most of them all. All those years of Chaeryeong trying to come out of her shell only to have Ryujin grow one herself.
Chaeryeong figures some things out at the ripe old age of twenty-three.

Summary
Ryujin shrugs. Gives another easy smile that has Chaeryeong befuddled. From her perspective, this must really just be like walking into the auditorium building for the free buffet after a conference. A means to an end, and preferably one where she is satiated and her wallet remains untouched, Chaeryeong’s sweaty palms and overthinking notwithstanding. This could be good. Because if Ryujin isn’t putting too much thought into this, then Chaeryeong doesn’t have to be so—

Chaeryeong—failed finance major, record store employee, and filial daughter—needs a date to impress her parents. Ryujin offers herself up a little too easily.
