The things that make Vash who he is are so disparate and contradictory and so, so human that Wolfwood forgets on occasion that he isn’t: it’s only when Vash doesn’t eat for days and seems none the worse for it, or when he plucks the pin feathers that sprout on occasion along his hairline that Wolfwood is reminded that, despite all their hours together, a yawning chasm still stretches between what he knows and what there is yet to discover about the Humanoid Typhoon.
The gauge of what is normal and what isn’t for Vash uses metrics that Wolfwood cannot even begin to attempt to define, but about a month into their sojourn to JuLai, some time between run-down rest stops and no-name towns, Wolfwood begins to notice that something about Vash seems… off . -
