Summary
Lan Xichen was never close to his mother, he remembered her more clearly than his brother did and all he saw was a vast emptiness in her eyes. Lan Xichen assumes she must have love him, as all mothers love their children but he never experienced that love first hand. They were not allowed to visit her most times and the times he met her, she would only softly ask about their progress as a disciple and while Lan Wangji was young and always quiet, wanting to be embraced by his mother, Lan Xichen took on the role to inform her about their daily life.
He never wanted motherly love, sure, he sometimes envied the closeness others had with their mother but he knew the reality of his situation. It was useless to want something he could not have.
