Summary
Mel had built her life around trying to do the right thing and helping others. Selfless to a fault as Fran—Dr. Langdon would say.
While she didn’t consider herself someone to run away from her problems, Mel was grateful for unintentionally perfect timing of the trip, allowing her a solid excuse to postpone the inevitable confrontation waiting for her back at home. She had the next fourteen days to push her turmoil down and soak in the fresh, Pacific coast air.
Two weeks to reconnect up with her friend. Two weeks to explore the coast her father dreamed of. Two weeks to fill her notebook and add no fewer than 20 species to her Life List (she’d gone beyond birds for the occasion!). And two weeks to mull over the fact she’d slept with a married man three days ago.
For Kingdon Week 2026 // Nature: An introspective journey with Mel as she explores parts of British Columbia, misses her dad, and mulls over her last interaction with Langdon.

Summary
Frank Langdon is worried about Mel. She has a lot on her shoulders and doesn't know how to ask for help. He decides that he can help her by giving her moments outside of work where she's just having fun, not taking care of anyone. Mel sees this as a bid for friendship and happily accepts.
Eventually real friendship blossoms between them, then something more.
__
Langdon is separated from the very beginning, just wearing his wedding ring at first to avoid questions or pity at work. He is not immediately looking for love or to get over Abby; it sneaks up on him.

Summary
The absolute last thing Jack intended to do was get involved with whatever middle-school two-step courting dance Langdon and King had going on. So, of course, he accidentally steps right into it.

Summary
“Who’s Jack?” Hayden tries to play casual.
“You remember him, don’t you? Real nice guy. Served in the Army with me back in the day? He taught you how to swing a bat when you were about yay-big.” Her dad waves his hand next to the leg of his chair. Given the estimated height, she would’ve been two or three. Obviously she doesn’t remember the guy.
—
Hayden Ellis heads to the Pitt looking for an internship at the favor of her dad. She doesn’t find “Jack,” but she runs into a handsome man named Dr. Abbot. Sleeping with a stranger never hurt anyone, right?
