Summary
In another life, Orochimaru never leaves Konoha, opting to remain within the village that equally reveres and reviles him. Fighting a bitter battle against forces within the village that are more influential and well-positioned, he finds himself gifted with one last shining opportunity: three children, a team of genin, handed to him because Konoha has no better choice. Orochimaru agrees to become a jounin-sensei for the first and the last time, taking on the next generation's Team Seven: Uchiha Sasuke, Nara Shikamaru, and Uzumaki Naruto.
[ A gradual exploration of the author's very liberal Naruto headcanon, with a good!Orochimaru (well, sorta good) who eventually becomes the Godaime Hokage. slightly embarrassingly and even more vulnerable, this fanfic birthed out of a semi-nothingburger ship in canon shaped my idea of love. yes this is kishimoto's naruto but also there is love and there is worth in spending the time to make a small change, whether to a person or the world because there is still light in this cold cruel world. however old i was in 2017... old enough to feel everything utsu has to offer here. i think of "here, try again" line in this fic as i reflect sometimes, just the weight behind that line- i also have a case of the 'the curtains are blue for an allegory to wwii' so take this with multiple grains of salt but sitting with this fic is like being cradled with the warmth of utsu's words- both the weight of them and how they progress the story

don't usually comment on bookmarks but everyone is back in my house (zukka) again and yet no one is talking about one of the holy grail zukka fanfics... written like they were on the storyboard for avatar no not even that can describe how well the characterization is here. logged in JUST to make this bookmark and this point known like. dude. brother. girl. one of the best like the characterization is only the start of what makes this so good
