Optimus was trapped; he gripped his drink tighter as he fought to stop his combat protocols engaging. There was nothing to do and nowhere to go. All eyes were on him as Megatron finally ceased his march. His eyes glowed with a delight that only ever meant trouble. Optimus steeled himself, knocked back the last of his drink, and stood to meet his opponent.

Optimus needs to get out and talk to someone. Megatron needs to talk to anyone other than Soundwave. Somehow, they both end up at a Veterans’ Speed Dating event. Things can only go well.

Summary
Megatron experiences a dream he cannot afford to have, vivid, destabilizing, and far too revealing. Regardless, he steps into a peacetime he is catastrophically unprepared for. The Conclave expects a warlord. The Autobots expect a threat. Optimus expects nothing at all, and somehow that is worse.
As field bleed, phantom sensation, and political pressure tighten around them both, Megatron finds himself unraveling in ways he cannot name. Luckily (or disastrously) Optimus Prime is right there with him, ready to keep him from (or rush him toward) falling apart.

He shifted in his seat, just slightly, crossing one powerful leg over the other. The motion drew the line of his thigh. To the hall, it was a leader settling in. To Megatron, whose peripheral vision was acutely tuned to the Prime's every move, it was a sudden, distracting focal point. Megatron's sentence faltered for a micro-klik.
