Just like it happened on every other busy day, Samira had no time to stop and breathe. The adrenaline kept her spirits high, floating her from one room to another with light ease. It was a hell of a painkiller; she had almost completely forgotten about her injury.
Until now, that is, as she sits herself down to chart and finally lets the day sink into her body.
Suddenly, she becomes aware of the tightness in her back, of the soreness in her hips, and of the pulsating ache on the inside of her foot—pricking like pins and needles, to the point where the sharp sensation makes her shift uncomfortably in her seat.

Summary
Jack Abbot and Samira Mohan live such drastically differing lives, the thought of them ever intersecting is simply laughable. At least that's what Samira assumes, when she meets Jack at a high profile charity auction that she's attending for her art gallery.
In no reality would Abbot- the inheritor of generations of wealth and a well sought after public figure- entertain Samira's world of student loans, car problems, and a one bedroom apartment on the not so nice part of town.
Against Samira's assumptions and better judgement, Jack Abbot seems to be very intent on proving her wrong.

Summary
Her phone rings from its place on the counter, and she ignores it, mind focused on cooling down and lessening the throb of her head. Once the ringtone stops, it picks up again, and Samira frowns at the thought of reaching up and pulling herself off the floor to grab it.
Her eyes slip closed, stomach growling in frustration, but the cool tile soothes Samira enough to fall asleep.
Or, Samira’s A/C unit breaks in the middle of August and Jack Abbot shows up ready to help her.

“Pilot awake!”
You tear your eyes from the myriad of glass tubing crowding the bunks. That was most definitely not the same automated voice that the computer had spoken with earlier. You turn around, and—
Well. You have no fucking idea what you’re looking at.
Your brain rapidly oscillates between fight or flight, fight or flight, before settling on the third option; freeze and scream. Your already dry and strained vocal cords squeeze and shred in protest, so it comes out less like shriek and more like a raspy whine. Get with the program, larynx!
The creature makes some sort of shrill, musical noise back, waving its appendages at you. Which you can only assume is some sort of offensive posture. Holy shit.
“Not worry! Rocky friend! Grace! Pilot friend awake!” The creature trills.
Hail Mary's commanding officer wakes up two months late.
