"Bart Allen really could do anything.
If there was anyone, anything, that could find a way to cheat death, and come back, it would be Bart Allen. Because he had done it so many times before, Preston resolved hopefully.
"Bart Allen, he's our man, if he can't do it, no one can," he mumbled to himself softly, his vision getting lost in the paused memory of shimmering pixels. "You hated that so much, asshole."
The silence of the room choked him and Preston hit play on his tape again and got lost in the memory from over two years ago.
"Asshole. Come back. You always came back.""
When Bart Allen died his identity was revealed to the whole world, and in response the town of Manchester decided to host a memorial of its own for the hero that made it his home. Preston Lindsay being well known as Impulse's friend is invited to deliver his eulogy.
There's only one problem...

Summary
The world thinks that Superman and Steel died in a brutal fight with Hank Henshaw, who now rules Metropolis with an iron fist. The truth is more complicated - they're under a terrible curse binding them together forever but simultaneously keeping them eternally apart. John Henry wanders the world as himself by daylight and a wolf at night. Clark is himself at night, and a hawk under the light of day. They've lived this haunted half-life for years and long given up hope that they'll ever break it.
Then a young clone of Superman turns up and with news that they have days to stop the Cyborg once and for all, and it's easy to hope once again.

It started slowly. Just little things, like
DadDon making a face about mushrooms in his food, when he’d previously loved them. OrMomOshi’s disinterest in the little window planter that she and Dad and now Uncle Ish and her maintained, when gardening was one of the things Anita remembered about her mother clearly. Things like that changed with time – lots of little kids changed their minds on these things as they grew up and this would be no different, Anita told herself. This was totally fine and normal.Or: Anita reckons with the inherent weirdness of watching her parents grow up, and whether they'll ever be the people she remembers. Fortunately, she doesn't have to do so alone.
