A story of imperfect motherhood...
This is a fic that is heavily inspired/build upon the AU stories written by @sundaisies (up until about Chapter 7-8). I highly recommend you read her series ("You are Flesh and Blood and Deserve to be Loved") before these. They're excellent and it gives a lot more backstory as to how they developed a relationship, and how they're here now.
This story starts post-rescue after Hannah takes Natalie back to the US from the hospital in Canada where she was for a few months recovering from near starvation and Shauna shooting her. In this AU, Hannah also has custody of Alex.

Summary

Silex Luctoria, Eighth Bloom, is an Affini known for her ability as a warden. She has helped many, many new arrivals to the Affini Compact adjust to life and find fulfilling, happy lives. After a distress signal is received by the Compact vessel Hololeion, she and others are sent to rescue the sophonts involved. Now, with a new ward at her side, she must help him adjust to his new life and overcome past struggles, in hopes of them gaining their independence within the Compact.
