    “Why not? What if that’s my answer?”

    “Is so boring, Hollander. Of course you want to know this. But Ilya Rozanov and Boston Raiders exist in this world, so crystal ball says, so sad, but no.”

    “Fuck off. What are these questions even for, anyway? Are you interviewing me for something? Wouldn’t you have to, like, tell me if you were?”

    Ilya is quick to assure Hollander before his paranoia takes him right out of this phone call. “It is not for interview, Hollander. I am just wondering. Answer the question.”

    “And I can’t say that I would want to know whether I win the Cup.”

    “Yes, other than that.”

    “I guess… I guess I would want to know, like, am I happy?”

    Ilya POV. This story, unexpectedly, made me tear up and cry so much. It's so full of yearning, sweet, and sexy. As expected by the author of 'Closer to where you are is where I must be'. The questions are, at the heart the story, a way to get them to open up to each other. Ilya finds himself unable to be fully honest about his answers, until the end. However, I also feel like they never really needed those questions to get together, but doing so gets there faster.

    “Jesus Christ,” Tyler said.
    “Wow,” Marly said. “That was…what the fuck was that, Roz?”
    Ilya was gripping the club so hard his knuckles had gone white. “Bad swing.”
    “That wasn’t a bad swing, that was like a physics-defying swing. I didn’t know you could make a ball go in that direction. You okay?”
    “Fine.” Hollander was getting married. Getting gay married. Who the fuck was Hollander marrying? He wasn’t even… Ilya cleared his throat, shoved his biggest club back in the bag, noted distantly that his hands were shaking. “Hollander is gay?”

    WIP, but so well-written and such a unique premise. When a sexy, young, woke and gay billionaire acquires the Montreal Metros with a multi-year plan in mind, will he succeed in reforming MHL hockey culture from the top down? What a fun read, and the issues tackled with nuance and maturity. I love how Shane is very observant here, and Ilya is so jealous without outright admitting it. I can't wait to see how the plot will unfold.

    “You are planning to rob me or what?” He hears Rozanov call, and he can’t help but smile slightly even as he rolls his eyes, closing the door to the linen closet and feeling strangely lighter than when he opened it, reassured that he’s just trying to read into a blank page, that today doesn’t mean anything more than Rozanov doesn’t mind him being around, which is strangely flattering.

    “I don’t know,” he calls back. “Don’t Russians like diamonds and fur and stuff? Where should I start looking if I want to know what my options are?”

    He hears Rozanov laugh, and it makes him smile.

    When he joins him in the living room once more, Rozanov tugs him down to lean against him again. Shane goes easier this time, settling into it, knowing it doesn’t mean anything other than the fact that he just happens to be the closest warm body, the person on Rozanov’s roster who filled today’s slot.

    This was incredibly sweet, emotional, and well-written in how they "accidentally" became exclusive boyfriends in all the ways that count, no tuna meltdown. But never talked about it until Rose helps Shane realize his feelings. This is really idiots in love in the most perfect sense. 💗
