As one of the Ten Stonehearts, he had both the intelligence and the stupidity to get himself in trouble with the venerable Doctor, overestimating his ability to manipulate the scales. Poker was one of his less-favourite games, but his head was already muddled when he’d made his proposal.
Because he knew he could easily turn the game, he’d been allowing Veritas to do whatever he pleased.
According to the law of absolute probability, a slip ought to any gambler one per four bets. In said statistics, no matter how good one was at guessing their enemy’s next movement, the slippery slope did the rug-pulling for thee.
So Ratio did nothing less than a simple mathematical surmise of the deck and the cards that were falling together on the table to know exactly what was going on in Aventurine’s hand.
One bet was all it took to get the Gambler on his knees, arms tied behind his back.
