Max can’t do this. No, really, he can’t. He’s barefoot, wearing the shortest shorts imaginable, and the cold is biting at his legs.
And, above all, he sure hopes he isn’t listening.
“Listen,” he tries again, leaning toward Daniel, “You need to leave,” Max says firmly.
Daniel’s face falls. “Max-”
“He’s right.” The voice behind them says.
Max freezes.

What wife tries to eavesdrop in his husbands important conversation with his men?
And then run away when he hears the truth.
He's so weak.
Did they make a mistake choosing for their president?

Charles notices. Of course he does.
“Hey,” his lips brush the shell of Max’s ear. “You’re okay. I’ve got you.”
The soft simple word breaks the dam. A quiet sob escaped before he could stop it, and he clings to Charles, his hands fisting in the soft fabric of his boyfriend’s shirt.
