“I’d say, one more before dinner.” He said, giving an excuse to his offer.
John only smiled in return, the sight of it making his heart flutter in his chest. Gale tried to ignore it, considering that they had only just started to get along with each other properly. The memory of how he’d acted upon their first meeting, when John had been nothing but graceful - even if he had destroyed Gale’s luggage in a brawl with someone, made his cheeks warm up from embarrassment. Thankfully they had reconciled since then. He didn’t want to be on John’s bad side.
Getting his cup refilled, Gale gave a smile of his own in exchange. The burn of the alcohol was still there with a second cup, but it was easier to manage. With a third- and eventually a fourth cup, the warmth of the bonfire felt more comforting, and let his worries slip away as Rosie picked up his guitar-like instrument that Gale couldn’t name even if he tried to. The alcohol buzzed in his veins, the taste of the dark rum sat heavy on his tongue. It wasn’t a pleasant taste, but he wasn't about to complain.

“How are you feeling?” He asked, brushing aside the feelings.
“Like a million bucks.” John answered with clear confidence in his voice, his smile still not faltering. “I love you.”
Gale snorted and rolled his eyes, knowing that they had thankfully been left alone. Their bunkmates, all people they knew and trusted, had given the two some time by themselves to catch up. Gale had done his best to ignore the looks and vague comments they’d been given, but was happy that they had been given time alone.
“Yup. Looks like you’ve got that concussion after all. Guess I should take you back to the doctor.” Gale’s reply was playful, a smile rising on his face as well to mirror John’s, but the unexpected confession still warmed his cheeks and set his heart soaring. It was not the first time they’d shared these confessions, but it still delighted him to hear it from John.

And just like that did John’s heart started beating again within his chest. Turning his gaze towards the crowd on the other side, he started looking for the owner of the voice. Finding him was easy, there amongst the countless men leaning against the barbed wire fence was Gale Cleven making his way through the crowd, his arms going through the gaps in the fence as he leaned forward with a smile rising on his face. Pretty as the day he’d left him.

“Hey, what’re you doin’ up?” His speech slightly slurring from sleep, Daisy smiled at the sight. It was the same question he’d asked her time and time again during the loops, but their situation was different now. Better, she mused as his hand slightly rubbed her bare arm.
“Had a nightmare. Didn’t mean to wake you up.” Replying quietly, she really did hope that her staring was not the reason he was awake. A frown returned to his face momentarily before being replaced by a kind, amused smile. Even if she would have been the reason, he would never say so, would never even think of blaming her for it.

Eyes fluttering open, the first thing Giorno saw was the heavy, red draping of the bed. For a split second there was confusion filling his mind, wondering where he was and what he was doing there, but with the pain returned his memory. He remembered the pain he had felt throughout the moment, the horror of how everyone had acted when they had found the gold; it had not been a pretty sight. Adults fighting over something so material, something which he held no interest in.
Rising from the bed, his hand flew quickly to the source of the pain. A broken collarbone from where he had been shot at. How was it that he was still alive? Had he been shot with the gun with blanks in it?
Wincing from the pain, Giorno tried to ignore the burning sensation on his shoulder. Looking around the room he could see the bodies littering the floor. Bodies of people he had once been close to, some whom he had held dear to him. The pile of gold bars stood on the other side of the room, completely untouched. If there was anything he believed in, it was the gold being cursed; even after learning of it being his inheritance it had brought nothing good into his life, only more sorrow and disgust in himself.
