Summary

It's all a mess of feelings until their pasts begin to collide and they must rely on each other to survive.

Summary
A pair of giant fucking antlers is what Pete sees first, because there’s no way those could be overlooked. Beneath them, a tiny guy, staring at them with a frown.
“You’re Fall Out Boy?” The guy asks, and thankfully, at least he has a normal speaking voice. He sounds grumpy, even though nothing has even happened yet to justify it, which annoys Pete almost as much as the fact that he asks if they’re Fall Out Boy as if there were any doubts about that. Pete’s ego is only slightly insulted that people don’t immediately recognize his band.
“Yes, we’re Fall Out Boy. And you’re who, a local fawn? No, wait, a deer boy ,” Pete says, with remarkable restraint in his voice. Only his raised ears betray his alertness and discomfort. He wants to growl, wants to tell the guy to avert his beady eyes, they’re freaking him out; but he’s not interested to find out what happens if those antlers meet soft, human flesh.
Deer boy doesn’t take that well, long lashes fluttering as he squints his eyes in anger. He gives the worst answer possible. “I’m your producer, dipshit. And actually, I’m a stag.”
Pete shuts his mouth at that.

Summary
“Why are you here?” Patrick asks through gritted teeth. His hands, clenched into fists, are shaking. His whole body is shaking, and there’s a coldness flooding him, turning his blood into ice. Ice. Ice and snow-white skin. White and a clash of red against it – no, no, please no. He can’t think about this right now.
But Pete died. He’s fucking dead, except, he’s sitting on Patrick’s bed now, looking very much alive and well except for those giant feathery things.
Chest rising and falling, Pete’s fucking breathing, how is that possible?!
“You died,” Patrick says, and then, what little self-restraint he has vanishes. “You died,” Patrick repeats, and with each word, his voice gets louder, “you died, Pete, you’re fucking dead, so why are you here?!”
Pete is not bothered by the screaming, he looks aggravatingly calm and just a little sad. Beautiful brown eyes looking at Patrick, and they look so real. So alive.
“I’m here to offer closure, Patrick.”

It’s not at the venues they’ve played before, when they were still Fall Out Boy. The bar he plays is darker and dirtier than that, a little sleazy when he hangs around the back. He’s never been famous like Pete is, or even how Patrick is, but he still wears a beanie pulled down low.

Summary
Thirty wasn't supposed to be like this, for Patrick. He's single, lonely and convinced that there's literally no one left on Earth who might be desperate enough to date him. None of his long-term relationships with women have worked out, and Pete has convinced him to get on Tinder to further explore 'dudes' as he did when he broke up with Anna, years ago.
Joe has other priorities - touring takes him away from home a lot and sharing custody of three-year-old Ted when he's at home in LA means his options are limited to those foolish enough to be willing to deal with someone else's kid in a city full of hyper-attractive proper celebrities.
In solidarity, they encourage each other, give each other date roadtests and compare notes. Patrick babysits, Joe offers advice, and Ted doesn't care as long as he gets to make pillow forts with his favourite person.

Joe didn't even want to take the scenic route home from Las Vegas, but Pete never listens, so they're in Death Valley when the ships pass overhead. That's the only reason they're not taken. They should have been. They could all have been at home with their loved ones, taken alongside them. But they weren't.
It quickly becomes apparent that the whole planet's population has been decimated. All population centres have been stripped of every human inhabitant - there are no bodies, no destruction aside from the fires that burn from kitchens left unattended and cars suddenly driverless in the streets - everyone is just gone.
So, they do the only thing they can think of - they go home.
