“Dada!” Hajun cried again, launching forward without slowing.
Soobin barely had time to react before the small weight collided with him. He caught him easily, arms wrapping tight out of instinct, pulling them the pup against his chest.
“Hey,” he murmured, the tension in him finally breaking as he exhaled, pressing a quick kiss into his pups tangled hair. “I’ve got you. I’ve got you.”
“So,” Yeonjun said finally, voice dry despite the lingering edge of stress, his scent tinged sour in irritation, “we’re calling backup now?”
“There’s a monster,” Hajun insisted again, as if that explained everything.

All that remained was the heart-wrenching reality that was Soobin and Yeonjun: just friends, simply put, co-parents guiding and caring for a tiny life together; struggling to hold onto what they once could have had — and what they still desperately long to hold again.
For that's all that they were; two souls trying to navigate the uncharted and aching truth of their love, desperately clinging to the hope that they could still find each other amidst the uncertainty.

He remembered very well, the night she sat by his bedside. She told him to close his eyes and count to 100, five times over. She made him promise not to open them until he was done.
Then she stood and quietly left, her figure vanishing as she closed the door behind her. Obedient as always, Yeonjun began counting. He tried his best, but he couldn't block out the escalating noise from the living room. He heard their voices rising in anger. Their words were sharp and heavy, tumbling into chaos. His little heart quickened with every crash or thud.
But he kept counting. He wanted to be good for her.
After a time, silence fell, so unsettlingly heavy that it nearly suffocated him. His home seemed too empty all of a sudden, and curiosity got the better of him. Silently, he opened his eyes, then crept to his bedroom door and slipped out into the dark hallway.
When he reached the living room, the sight was too much for that little boy.
