Summary
Pete had always loved Halloween.
Being able to have that one day of the year where, while most people were putting on masks, Pete was taking his off. Most people would just assume that he was taking on the persona of whatever creature or ghoul he was posing as that particular year but, in reality, he was just living as he truly wished without fear of judgment.
He could stop the phony smiles and rest his aching jaw, speak his mind, and not stop to think about the appropriate responses to people’s insane actions like he usually had to do to maintain some level of professionalism. No, Pete could be just as he pleased, just as dark and cruel and wicked as he wanted to be for a whole twenty-four hours, and he adored it.

“They took him,” he said, digging his nails into his palms. “Macau. They took him on his way back from school.”
