Summary

A priest devotes his life to god, but when he kneels at the altar, his hands tremble, his fingers itch with the need to touch, to take. He confesses, he prays, but his knees are worn from more than just worship. A mother sees something unnatural in her child, something she cannot name, and she tells herself she loves him, that she will love him no matter what. But the moment she sees his sin laid bare before her, she strikes him across the face.
A thousand little betrayals. A thousand little acts of self-denial. Tonight, the hunger had won. Tonight, it would win again.
