Summary
The word 'brilliant' always followed Pavel Chekov and, quite frankly, Joanna McCoy didn't understand it.
To her, he was awful, a player, a man who toyed with hearts and didn't care who he hurt. When his attentions turned to her, she decided it was time to teach him a lesson - she just didn't expect to fall for him while she delivered it.
Post-canon, based on the characterisation of Chekov we saw in Beyond and TOS, and filled with plenty of grumpy Bones moments.

“Y-yes?” she stuttered, startled by his new presence and fighting an unfamiliar roaring in her ears as his slate eyes pierced hers.
“No, that won’t do.” He shook his head slightly. “You know what to call me.”
Gulping down heat that bloomed in her stomach, Penelope almost whimpered. “Yes…Sir?”
“Good girl,” he soothed, his voice low and rough, sending unexpected shivers to her core.
