The creatures gossip, surprisingly. Xie Lian had a lovely conversation with a crane just the other morning, the sun warm against his feathers as his equally long legs step carefully through the water.
The crane was a mother, praising the fast development of her children. She spoke as human, so endearing that the man couldn’t help but sing his own praises. Deer have far more to say! Does keep their heads down as they graze, murmuring to each other about the lackluster selection of bucks during the spring, or the way the fawns would race away from new mother’s into the fields, causing the poor darlings to panic from ears to hooves.
They rarely speak of their fears or some form of impending doom. They truly live in the moment, take in their scenery and enjoy their lives. They trot and wiggle through life. The god learned much from forest creatures.

Xie Lian looked up, every coherent thought in his head vanishing. The man standing across from him was, without question, the most handsome person he had ever seen.
His gaze caught first on the sharp line of the man’s jaw before traveling downward over a broad chest. A long, black high ponytail splayed over a strong set of shoulders. An eyepatch concealed one eye, while the other regarded him with a fierce, amused intensity.
“What can I get you to drink, gege?” the man asked, his voice low and smooth.
OR: On the day of his 27th birthday, Xie Lian gets dragged to the bar by Shi Qingxuan to celebrate. He doesn't drink, and he's totally out of his depth in this nice establishment. The last thing he expects is to be completely entranced by the young man behind the counter.

"Oh, I have a reservation, actually," Xie Lian said, suddenly remembering the real reason he was there.
"No, you haven't," Hua Cheng's eyebrow rose, and his smile took on a playful amusement that Xie Lian had missed, "I'd remember seeing your name on the list if you did."
"Right," Xie Lian smiled sheepishly, wishing the floor would open up and swallow him when he explained, "That's because it's not under my name. It's under—"
"Your date's name," Hua Cheng nodded slowly, as if the pieces of the puzzle were beginning to fit together, "Right. Obviously, because you're at a fancy restaurant, and you look like that."
"Like what?" Xie Lian looked down at himself, suddenly far more self-conscious than he had been all evening.
"Nothing," Hua Cheng laughed gently, the sound fading as he took a moment to really look at Xie Lian and said, "You look… even better than I remembered."
